Doesn't look like one way traffic - roads are operating as normal, just a bit busy according to Google Maps.

Quoting the caption on the same picture in this article:

"A map of the area shows roads will become one-way to ease traffic congestion. Photo / Costco NZ"

Yeah, agreed. The 'Opening Specials' they've advertised online don't seem special enough to warrant getting into the scrum.

To be honest, I wouldn't consider them worth the drive!

A Facebook user reported no queue at cira 8:30.

May be an image of 6 people, people standing and text

Apparently they opened the store at 7:15am, much earlier than the advertised 8am.

So if you are in the market for a iPhone 14 Pro then there’s your annual membership fee covered right there. Except of course if Harvey Norman or Noel Leeming will price match. I assume they would argue Costco is a wholesaler and requires a membership so no price match.

If the picture above is representative of permanent pricing and not just an opening special, then legacy retailers in the area will need to sharpen their act.

edit: @Scott3 Did you queue, or go straight in?

If the traffic on Google Maps is anything to go by, I’m glad I don’t need to go anywhere near Westgate (North-West) today.

Also kind of glad IKEA is going to Mt Wellington and not out here, as was initially rumoured.

There are now reports of queues going out the door.

On Ikea, Mt wellington already has issues with congestion, and (based on my visit to Ikea Manila), Ikea will attract a heap of people. The restaurant alone was epic in scale.

My mother in law is American and plans to visit Costco solely to have their hotdogs, "American flavoured" hotdogs are almost impossible to find here (apparently).   She was told by the lady who signed her up that they will be the Costco dogs rather than a NZ replacement/equivalent, which is what she's after.

This is a nostalgia thing for her, I don't think she's necessarily recommending them.  But if others like American hotdogs then might be worth grabbing one while you're in there.

If you are talking about the food court hot dog's, NZ is selling an all pork hot dog (different to the all beef hot dog in the USA).

Oh damn, that is definitely not what the sales woman told my MIL!  She said they will be selling the Costco dogs just like in the USA.  She'll be disappointed.   BTW how did you find that out?

Me too.

Twenty to thirty years should do it, I think.

Yup, because they enforce both food hygiene and truth-in-marketing laws here. Hot-ground-corn-and-meat-byproducts-with a-small-amount-of-horse-meat-dogs doesn't have quite the same ring.

Having said that, whoever came up with the idea of marketing mini bread sticks as Kiwi sausages also has a lot to answer for.
