Why? They’ll just ignore all the previous films, the same as when they changed actors the last 6 times.

James Bond is the name assigned to the Agent 007 as I understand it. It's not the real name of the person who is currently the 007.

Ie that allows there to be someone in the position of the 007 role if one 007 is killed or retires etc.

You’re overthinking things. It’s whatever the film makers want it to be at the time.

That's a theory that doesn't hold up to the various Bonds referring back to past events like death of wife as happening to them not another person. The timeline is as flexible as Poirot's.

I'm happy that some of the actors aren't going to get saddled with more Bond. They must have better options.

Ben Whishaw/Q wasn't contracted beyond the 3 films he did, that should tell you their intent as to where the next films going after No Time to Die. If that cast was returning they would have been locked in.

New James Bond/MI6 etc ignoring the previous films as always.

Henry Cavill has been axed from his Superman role, and also will not return as The Witcher. Does this mean that he is in line for the Bond role? I don't think so. His age is against him, which is one of the reasons that he lost the Superman role.

He has signed up for Amazon Prime's series Warhammer 40,000, "The streaming platform is reportedly in final talks with manufacturer Games Workshop to adapt the beloved tabletop game franchise."

My money is still on Aaron Taylor Johnson for the Bond role.

Daniel Craig was 38 when he first became bond. Roger Moore 45, Connory 32, Dalton 41, Brosnan 42, so Cavill's 39 is ok. These days older actors seem to be continuing on playing action roles (look at Denzel Washington, Liam Neeson, Keanu Reeves, Tom Cruise, even Harrison Ford in the latest Indy film)

I really like Cavill but ATJ at 32 will be a good Bond too and probably the best pick of the bunch (hard call to make between him and Cavill)

James Bond is the character's real name. He is the son of a Scottish father, Andrew Bond, and a Swiss mother, Monique Delacroix. After his parents are killed in a mountain climbing accident, Bond goes to live with his aunt, Miss Charmian Bond.

That’s the books. The films have thankfully departed from the book Bond long ago.

There was still references to the Scottish family and growing up in the highlands etc in the recent film series - following on from the books.

Looks like there is a chance Henry Cavil could be considered again after losing Superman and the other project he was considered for and rejected for superman.

Never really rated him as Superman, can see him potentially as a bond, though he looks incredibly young for that role.

Sure. The point is that there is no real canon for the films. They are whatever they want to be at the time. Thankfully there’s no real James Bond universe, they mostly reinvent themselves for each movie with a few characters carried through.
