[Just received our second one by post today

Does that mean you have to do thje census twice.  Sounds like it's going almost as well as the last one, which cost Liz MacPherson her job.

Same as a few others here,

I've had a second letter in the mail with a Census code.... after completing my household already.

The two letters are intentional as a way to remind people to fill them out.

It appears to have worked, since the double letters are all over the news and people are talking about them. If even 5% or 1% of the people do the census because they read the news article, who would normally put the first letter down and forget about it until it was too late, then the purpose of the two letters has been completed.

The last census was quite low in terms of engagement, particularly due to the huge push for doing everything digitally (less people going door to door, and making it more difficult to request paper forms). Unfortunately the people with less access and ability to do the census online are exactly the people that need to be counted. I think they may be overcompensating a bit this time around, but at least its in the right direction.

Hi, we have not received anything from Stats NZ, have tried via their web site to get a code, they do not recognise our address, there has been a house at this address for over 100yrs!!!!!!, and we received a mail pack from them last census. I have tried to leave messages via phone and email, seems that StatsNZ do not want to be contacted, my thoughts for now, .....................well who gives a f#ck  and as a responsible citizen, I do, but if a govt dept makes it impossible, is it my responsibility to try sort???????????????????????

My feeling exactly. We have five people in our house and only received four forms so requested one more over a week ago and yet nothing has turned up. I'll just list the five people on the dwelling form and let them follow it up after the 7th March if I don't get the form.

Ok, so a nice lady from Census just turned up, there was confusion as our property has a cottage with permant tenant who did recieve an envolope, and our main house that includes a booking.com apartment, that caused the local distribution person to want to talk directly to us to clarify who would be in the dwelling on the 7th, so now I have a pack for my wife, I and the dwelling, plus five individual packs for any guests, of which there will be two from South America on that night... problem solved.

I should also note that after I fired off an email to Census they have engaged with me directly via email to explain what has happened and to expect a door knock before Tuesday.

As expected, for all that fill anything in, you do not need to do the paper work, online using the provided codes is all thats required.

Did anyone think some of the answer options are badly thought out or simply biased .
Why do I have to be White European ? Why the obsession with being linked the the EU/UK.
Im 4 gen NZ . I have zero links to Europeans . I put Other / Kiwi . thats what I am .

I thought some of the questions were a bit snoopy, and not at all needed for what the census is claimed to be for .

A very badly designed online form , you could actually ignore some of the questions & it allowed you to proceed .

I'll predict this will be a shocking poor Census return(?) rate .
Its now just too easy to ignore it, & the tinfoil hatters and anti social types will not participate. It used to be , if you didnt fill out the form, they would come knocking on your door& give you a (nice) hurry up.

And where is the option for Jedi under the religion options . More bias against marginal beliefs :-)

I did the census. After requesting a code from the website I got to fill out the forms online and 21 minutes later a census worker came to the door to check. And I asked him where was our forms and his reply was when they came they put the house a vacant even though there was 2 cars and a work truck sitting. In driveway , and I was able to type Jedi in the religious area .

No, you're not. The question is about ethnicity, not nationality.

Strange. The only optional question is the phone number.

There should be a "Don't know" option for the income question. It relates to the current financial year and I haven't done my taxes yet, so it's my (accountant's) best guess.

Why the questions about smoking : again showing bias (against smokers ).
NZ has more of a health issue with so many being obese to the extent of risk of diabeties
so...

So I propose this question for the next Census (Im serious , reworded a bit better)
Are you fat .
How many times a week do you eat takeaway/pies ?

Also
Do you live in a car .
Does your family of 6 live in a garage ?
What % of your weekly pay is going on rent or mortgage ?
How long (in hours) are you stuck in traffic going to work & back ?
Have you had Power/water/phone/internet cut off this year because you had no money to pay the bills
Have you been the victim of a serious crime , physical assault or burglary / car breakin /theft in the last year
Do you know the name of the NZ prime minister , leader of the opposition

I suspect those in charge dont really want stats on the questions above .
