Genesis Online signup - offer as shown. Called them and they threw in an extra 100 Power Shout hours and wouldn't discount the rates further. From what I have read online they don't really give out many Power shout hours "normally" during the year - maybe 20 hours or less?

I'm on piped gas too and the Genesis website doesn't allow me to mix a Standard user Gas Plan with a Low User Electricity Plan, which is the cheapest combo for me. Called them and they sorted this out. Also I wanted to lock in a 90c daily Low User Electricity rate before they raise it to 120c at some point in the future.

Recently did this myself.  Electric kiwi rates had gone up so much that I figured there must be better options. Crunched numbers and came to the conclusion that Octopus was best fit for us - in our house, even with the EK free hour of power, it still worked out to $60-70 cheaper per month, though that also depends on time of year. But the KWh rates were just so much better - though you have to careful as Octopus does have slightly longer peak period during day than EK, higher daily charge and obviously no free hour of power.

Anyway, it seems to me like with EK you're just subsidising all the broadband, mobile phone offerings, people who manage to get 40%+ of usage into their free hour or something. Because we just got first bill from Octopus and sure enough it's bang on where I calculated it should be (based on last years bill from EK) and works out to a saving of ~$70 this month.

Genesis used to offer a basic plan option, alongside the plus plan it defaults to.
The basic plan has cheaper rates but you don't get the powershout & some other bonus.
I prefer this basic plan as you can just forget about it & get the cheaper power, & I think the value of the cheaper power is greater than the bonuses.

Just checked my address and looks like they have indeed removed the basic plan.

Previously the plan selection page presented three columns - Basic, Energy Plus and EV. Now it's the same three columns but with the names changed for the first two columns: Flexi, Fixed and EV. The look and feel is almost the same. At first I assumed they had just renamed Basic to Flexi.

But I have a record of all the prices from when I checked a few months ago, and found in fact Flexi and Fixed are the old Energy Plus plan -- renamed so Energy Plus open term is now Flexi and Energy Plus one-year contract is called Fixed (previously both were in the middle column with radio buttons IIRC to switch between open term and one-year contract).

A bit cheeky I think. Also means the cheapest open they offer has gone up from 0.9 daily 0.2333 kwh (+GST) to 0.9 daily to 0.2633 kwh (+GST).

Wonder if it's now one of those 'we don't show it on the website, you'll have to call' plans.

Thanks for the heads-up, I'm a low user too so would want that. Looks like I'll have to call them to arrange it all if their website doesn't allow low user and gas.
