gza:
corksta: Any idea when it officially goes live and loses the preview prefix?

Goes Live on Monday apparently..

Advertising sizing has changed to get into industry standard, so that advertisers do not have to create new ads just for trademe.

Meeeh!

They had better leave the old site somewhere we can still access it.. im really not liking the new layout.

kobiak, I couldn't replicate your results in IE8..

I don't like the idea of a fixed layout. Fluid is much more Web 2.0 and 3.0 TBH.

They should have thought about the wide range of devices and resolutions and made one size that fits all not one that targets generic users.

Even if their fluid layout had maybe 100px of spacing on each side to create the "page" look it will still be better than what it is now...

Very poor decision in my view. Why on earth alienate a good portion of your customers by making the page width 1024 pixels?? Other than ease of use for advertisers. Surely most users other than those using netbooks would have a screen resolution in excess of 1024? It looks terrible now, I was just browsing vehicles and as you scroll down each item sits in the centre of the screen with about 65% of the screen displaying nothing at all. Looks awful.

Just all don't use it. I bought something last night and it'll probably be my last.

It is a horrible upgrade and as trade me seldom do, they did not actually figure out what their bread and butter, IE: the users, actually wanted. This could be the chance for the other struggling sites to gain some traction now.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

I hope so. Trade Me's fees are becoming rather rediculous.

I sold something for 950 the other day. $50 went on TradeMe fees. I mean come on.

I have noticed that Trademe's fees are MUCH higher than ebay AU even with conversion. I do prefer Trademe in some ways though. And I don't mind the new site too much... hope they fix the fixed width

The fools cant even handle a change of site, they have people ending up using a cached old stylesheet etc messing up the layout and they are just going around telling people to ctrl-f5 - in the time that they have spend posting that to their messageboard they could have renamed the new stylesheet and changed the code that makes it so that noone was having issues with the old one.

Exactly.

I've actually moved to ebay.

But you are right; the bonus with TradeMe is its New Zealand hosted.

But to me, i would much rather have lower prices.

freitasm: It's all very confusing... The TITLE tag shows "TradeMe". The tabs show "Trade Me" and so on... The company is "Trade Me Ltd" and that's what I use - but most people search for "TradeMe".

Obviously, they aren't too good at branding - officially the brand is Trade Me.

They seem to be having some issues with their ad displays, currently seeing a rectangle ad (250x300px) showing in the top banner position, and it's sitting behind the main navigation (in Firefox)...  Still good to see them using some standard online ad sizes for a change so we don't have to make custom sized ads just for Trade Me!

I suggest that everyone who is unhappy with the new format let trademe know about it, you never know they may reconsider if enough people complain.

The css files do look like they are uniquely named to me eg: Common157.css presumably they increment that every time.

In my experience there are always a small % of users who have caching problems no matter what you do at the code/server end.
