Hmmm, perhaps some other retailer will match it on a better drive. Not too impressed with the performance of the green drives when directly connected to onboard sata - lots of pausing when using the PC that didnt happen with the old seagate 7200.12 before it started to act up. Replacing sata cables stopped the long freeze that was happening, but there are still delays opening my computer on the greens that the seagates never did.

robbyp: $100 is an ok deal, but they are only 5400 speed

So many people didnt fully read my first post. The drive inside is a WD Green 10EADS which is 7200rpm.

If you need faster, rip off the casing and simply use it as an internal drive.

It doesn't say that on the advert I have got. Where does it say that?

it doesnt say its a 5400rpm drive on the advert either.
I have one of these drives, hence why i know its a 10EADS because thats the hardware ID of it.

Well the one I have got is 5400 speed.

Ok... for all you people that want to guarantee one and dont mind being a bit cheeky go buy one now. Yes they are currently $159 or whatever but... DSE has a price-matching 14 day guarantee therefore bring back your receipt in the weekend and get the difference.

Thats true, its part of DSE's price matching gaurantee, if the price changes within 14 days of purchase and you have the receipt then you can get a refund of the difference.

I thought the price promise didn't apply to limited stock offers, and the mailer clearly says this is a limited stock offer... either way I'm not taking any chances and will be waiting for my local DSE to open on Thursday morning...

Worst case scenario is you get your money back.

But they will resell it to you at that price. If they dont, say you want to return it, and then buy the returned item again. No different to if they sell your returned HD to someone else.

The ad says "limited stocks" but doesn't say "x per store" or "x nationwide" which would be a bit dodgy if they open the doors tomorrow and say "sorry we don't have any at this store" because their systems show HEAPS of stock across the chain??

freitasm: How easy to open the external case?

Along the lines of this question - I don't know much when it comes to the internals of my PC.

I have an AMD Athlon 3000+ 2.0Ghz which has a 120Gb HDD and a 40Gb HDD installed internally.

If I'm not mistaken these are "IDE" HDDs?

Is this WD HDD suitable to just plug into my current system? Or have HDDs evolved and would it require a more modern motherboard?
