The purpose of laws is to balance rights of the populous against measures that protect it. How many batches of P will be prevented vs how many people inconvenienced by the inability to easily access pseudo-ephedrine? I don't think the trade-off is worth it. In fact, I think P should be legalised, taxed and controlled. The supply process will be removed from the hands of gangs, so quality would never be an issue. The enormous tax windfall would be used for education, prevention, rehab, and medical care. Most importantly, someone would be required to get a prescription first, meaning their doctor could monitor their health and progress, and limit their intake. We're applying a band-aid to a large, but easily fixed problem.

Thank the gods you aren't in charge of our country.  Your idea of legalising P would quintuple the load on the public health system, quadruple the load on our justice system, and frankly would benefit noone except the funeral industry.

I see you're avoiding hyperbole and sticking to the facts. Good man.

About 5 years ago I had the flu so I went and got some Pseudoephedrine based night and day. Bad idea.. I was awake for 2 days very "high" after taking one of the day ones. How large can someone pupils go? :-)

3 Weeks ago I had the flu again and went in and got some Phenylephrine based night and day and it did exactly the same thing.. arghhh

You can't win...

If it's true you can request some real stuff and just show ID etc then that works for me. This new sht is rubbish for me, did absolutely nothing though cost the same.

Also makes for a good laugh when you read that most brands have essentially the same content as well, despite their varying costs.

I find pseudoephedrine very effective to deal with colds and hayfever, I find phenylephrine based products completely ineffective. I don't get side effects, don't feel high, etc, it just fixes a problem.

I find you're looked at like a criminal for asking for it, so for the past six months i've been getting it on prescription. My doctor has no problem prescribing it, but in small quantities. Fortunately I don't need it too often, so that's fine.

Have you considered the side effects being caused by an alternative ingredient??  It could have been the codiene or another additive.

As a side note:

I still stand by the thought that it is a mistake to make it prescription only, you watch the effect it has on a) struggling primary health systems b) the economy as more people are off work

It is legislation meant to be "popular" by playing on the ignorance of the general public.  If you cannot safely dispense these drugs via pharmacists (a registered professional body, just like an MD) then what does a prescription do?

Yes its something else in it. Not the codeine as I can take Nurofen Plus perfectly well and taking paracetamol tablets don't seem to affect me at all.

The Active ingrediants are Paracetamol , Phenylephrine and Dextromethorphan for the Phenylephrine version and Paracetamol and  Pseudoephedrine  for the Pseudoephedrine version so its very strange I get so high on them.

NZtechfreak:

I sometimes prescribe pseudoephedrine in small quantities, its the only thing that really helps during colds and flus, and for some sinusitis sufferers its a god send.

Can you prescibe stuff for me?? I don't really want the crap, I just want to say I've a doctor that listens to Damageplan!!!Cool

sorry about the OT,

The Mrs has sinus probs and all the over the counter stuff she tries never works... maybe she should go see about something better.

As for "legalise P" ARE YOU F"N KIDDING???

Take it from someone who spent the 90's not being able to remember the 90's... that s*&t is waaay effed... even if they didn't call it P where I'm from.
Legal or not, it still kills, and not just the users.
