Jama: this year I think I will list me religion as Geek.

Now there is a mighty fine idea - had it been mooted earlier we could have campaigned for it...

The Japanese culture is different... I don't think this would work here or in the USA. Or would it?

"Maid cafes have mushroomed since they first emerged about four years ago, evolving from cafes where waiting staff emulated characters from a popular series of role-playing video games, often dressed in schoolgirl-inspired uniforms."

I'm surprised they didn't actually use the word cosplay.

But I have to say it would be interesting if they started something like that in New Zealand. Would certainly be a change to the assortment of cafe cafe's or internet cafe's.

you know, when i read this it is easy to see how religious wars start.
if you get this forceful when you dont really care that much imagine if you believed with every cell in your body that geek and nerd meant totally different things.

It's the same way any war starts. You're saying or doing something someone else doesn't like. If you take it too far you start a war.

On forums it's a flamewar (which this would have easily turned into except for the restraint of the members on here). Out in the real world it would turn into a fight or brawl. Next a war.

Religion isn't a factor. Although I'm pretty sure I did vote Jedi in the last census if I remember correctly. Bit of a shame they didn't release stats on how many people put that. :(

Well I'll tell you what no one better print any caricatures or cartoons depicting Obi-wan Kenobi

That would be blasphemous and I might get angry!

Jama, in the interests of free speech and protecting the rights of the press and despite the fact it offends you and puts me at risk of losing trade with you and putting me in danger of what ever terrorist act you intend on planning against me:

Laugh my --off, gosh, i must say reading all that was thoughly engrossing, I my self know a few geeks, and I must say! I can't see any unattractiveness at all, they are very social and quite the heart thob (hot, fli), out of my league but its nice to dream! But I have also come across a couple of nerds, they are entirely on a different plane, ie:
  • Harder to make conversation with.
Never dance with a nerd unless you want to be kicked.
    They are typically very jumpy.
They do not like physical contact of any sort.

sorry if this has offended any nerd but this is just my experience and does not reflect those of different genetic backgrounds...
