All gone quiet here now. I wish I had the wind speed and rainfall sensors now...

We had a bit of a blow in Wellington yesterday, some strong rain for a short while and the temperature plummeted, but it was hardly anything worth getting excited about.

Sunny and calm here this morning.

Is it possible the media may have sensationalised the story..??

Is that the sort of thing they'd do..??

What a rip off. They just ran out of news on that day and exaggerated this.

I wish we would get some thunder, lightning and rain. I LOVE it!

but sadly, we have just a little bit of wind here in Whangaparaoa.

I had to be called into work to help with the calls about this storm :(

For Waikato , Waipa and Hamilton city councils there's usually only 1 person on for the
4pm - 11.30 pm shift on a Friday night. As every flooding and tree down call has to go
in a separate work request I was called in to help out with the calls.

While it wasn't totally insane it was pretty busy - mostly with calls about trees or branches
on the road.

Friday night about 18 separate incidents about trees down.
Saturday's had 34 separate incidents about trees down so far.

Note this only counts the actual incidents that occurred - not the amount of calls we got. Often we would get multiple calls about the same location.

Yeah I would say it was pretty windy :)

Yeah, was a bit quieter around our neck of the woods - nothing exceptional. When I was living in Orewa, we had a cyclone (bola ?) thru in 2004(?) that was far more stormy than this wee guster. Still have the vid clips. And a couple of years ago, there were storm surges across SH1 @ Hatfields Beach and Orewa Beach. Admittedly, the wind was howling in from the East then, rather from the West as per this time. But far more impressive :-)

Dad was on the phone to his parents in Palmerston North just a second ago and apparently its really really bad down there. Raining sideways, tree's all over the place.

Gotta admit, the wind has really picked up around north Auckland over the last couple of days - bloody chickens keep getting blown over to the neighbours property :-)
A couple of buckets of dirt to keep the lid on the chicken hutch down !

And I have lost power at least 5 times over this week.
