The problem I have with powershop is that with their standard prices they are one of the more expensive providers, its only when you start to play games about buying some special deal at this time which is for power used in the future between these weeks but only a small amount of it, or a limited offer thats only for a days worth of power at about 20% saving etc that they become cheap, and I'm sorry, but I cant be forked screwing around playing games purchasing small amounts of power at slightly cheaper rates with limitations on when it can be used.

BraaiGuy:

You got 20.63 cents/kw for 2 years, it quiet good I suppose. My current standard power costs with powershop is 18.71c.unit. This was down to about 17c.unit in November, Sure it rises again in Winter, my last year average over winter was 20.71c.unit.

unless you are in the same area/suburb/city its pointless comparing prices.  they change depending on where you are located as well as depending on which provider you use...

Cant say I agree with you their about their standard pricing being more expensive. In fact, I find mine a bit cheaper that other providers for my area, and I don't need to pay the daily charge.

Those special deals powershop have are useless, u may save 5c or something on a days power when buying them. Some people think they getting a great deal. I don't. The latest deal was a valentines pack for $15 wich worked out to be a days power @ 17.86c per unit. but its only 1c cheaper than the standard rates. A waist of time and effort just to login and purchase it. Where it does work out cheaper though is that I can buy winter power now, I bought some winter power a while ago for about 20c per unit. Over winter time the prices will rise, but if you buy them early you may save a bit.

They have the rates on the site, and then have this note on the page -

Actual prices may also vary depending on the amount of night and/or controlled usage.

The per unit price is above any other powerco that I have looked at, and that only offsets the lack of a daily charge if you use stuff all power (less than $200 a month or so)

At least with the other power companies, the rate on the page is what you pay without any disclaimer about that it might vary from what they say.

If I could pay 3x the daily charge for a 30% lower unit charge - I would be all over it. Powershop are IMO foolishly taking it the other way and building the fixed cost into an artificially high variable cost, which only makes sense at a property with almost no usage like a holiday house etc.
