My current server is also my HTPC. Ideally I'd scrap the large HTPC model and go with a compact silent box for media, and the HP server providing my storage requirements. This would be perfect!

Currently have a semi-reliable (used that adjective very loosely) Dell Dimension 3100 with a mere 160gb hdd and one hell of a rattle. It freezes most days and offers no processing power of any sort of note. The ProLiant would not only allow me to keep a centralised copy of my valued photos and music, it would look oh so damn good in my man cave (read bedroom).

Which is still unresolved. As it stands, streaming occurs from the vintage machine over wifi... which is struggling...

My current rig:
A hole in my heart

The wiring off the side is a Belkin charging station and not a wired plate.... Cool

Does your current rig support Wifi and sport nuclear batterys which have magically turned it invisible?
If so, that's a better server than this one :P

I've embraced the world of inductive power and virtualisation!

My 'server' is way in the cloud... conected via Untraceable Futuristic Bigcable

Currently I use a mix of external and internal hard drives on my main computer for storage (it's very very messy)... So I would LOVE the HP order to move all my mass storage to it.. I'd definetly max out that  8.0TB of space :D

I'll take two thanks!
If this is manufactured to the same standard as my trusty HP laptop it would be worth the money!

ZollyMonsta:

This is the dusty old computers I run 87.9FM The Cheese on at home.  The one on the left is what my audio plays out of (homebrew PC.. makes lots of noise) This runs the station software and holds all my music (over 4,400 tracks!).  The one on the right does all the streaming for the internet and Cable TV.  Keeping backups of the music is a nightmare as I do not currently own any NAS device.  I am having to backup to 4.7gb DVD Rewriteables which not only is labour intensive and slow, but many hours of work could be lost at any time :(  I would put the HP Microserver to work ensuring the Music Library and important data was always backed up.  I could also use it to provide a better service for the internet streaming (retiring the HP Compaq pictured, currently in use).

Of course I promise the HP Microserver would be lovingly dusted daily should I win it..  Laughing

Gee, what are the server names?

Mozzarella and Pecorino?

Yum, a new server is likely to save me $$ on power. This puppy sucks the juice!

Current server is a Dual 2.5ghz G5 PowerMac with 4 gb ram and 2 tb storage.
Servers up 24inch iMac, Macbook Pro, MacBook Air, a few iDevices, a dell pc and several gaming servers who access my stored movies on it.

At home, we have three laptops, a netbook, a Mac Mini, two Cr-48's, and no servers.  The HP Microserver would make it possible to store files, particularly large media collections, in one place where all of these can access them, instead of being scattered among different machines, some of which are nearly filled to capacity.

My current media server was old when it was being thrown out - 5 years ago! - so it well and truly needs replacing now.

I'd love to be able to upgrade it!
