People seem to be very aware of, and quick to promote/defend their "rights", but less so in relation to their responsibilities or obligations back to society.

I'm told kids are taught their "rights" at school - don't know if this is accurate.

Surely responsibilities go hand in hand with rights - there has to be a balance between the two.

Teens' screams for help ignored (in Timaru)

I'm not likely going to try and step into a situation where it would be 15 against 1.

Not only that, but the very real possibility of being charged with assault as well....

The article doesn't mention whether they did or not. Somebody called the cops.

As someone who has been on the receiving end of a similar situation, I wouldn't be going anywhere near them, but I'd be on the phone to the cops stat. Even if there was only a couple of them I still wouldn't touch them for the reason dolsen has already stated. Yay for "justice"...

If only there was a way to prevent parents of such children from having any more of them, as they're obviously not capable of raising them with a reasonable standard of social behaviour.
