Well, both of them are pretty stupid religions! The Muslims, on balance, are probably a bit more backward and nasty at the moment.

I'm completely sure of myself, but still reserve the right to mock religion and the religious - but I only tend to when they say something that is illogical, inhumane or anti-science.

DravidDavid: so the source on the debunked version would be a nice thing to read/watch when I get the chance.

Oh I'm not talking about a specific show, but have stumbled upon parts of them before, and every single time I see them talking about a certain artifact, anomaly or construction, there's already a perfectly good explanation for it. They present the ET-nut's perspective and leave it at that.

I can say though, without a doubt, Von Daniken and Lloyd Pye are barking up the wrong tree.

The weak point of evolutionary theories is they're based entirely on the knowledge and rules we've accepted within our known knowledge boundaries and ecosystems.

'Alien' lifeforms have quite possible evolved to a different rule set, one which we are incapable of understanding right now.

General (current) thinking suggests we only look for alien life on 'habitable' planets... those that lie in the so called 'Goldilocks-zones'. (Until fairly recently we hadn't actually identified many planets beyond our own solar system, primarily because we were looking for them the wrong way... once 1 was found using different techniques it seems to have become a bit of a barrel shoot.)

I thought i might put my 2 cents in

Is there life out there:
I put it out there that even the most pessimistic person tells you the odds of another life capable solar system out there and even less chance of life capable planet, and by what i have been reading the next to never chance of life even being made there. Multiply those terrable (mind my space pun) odds by the shear number of stars out there, I haven't done the math myself but surly the result will tell you there is a very good chance of life out there intelligent or not. (someone must have done this math somewhere wouldn't mind seeing it)

As for will we ever see it:
Outside the solar system for the foreseeable future i just don't think we have the science to get to these places to see it let alone the technology.

Just as I would not attempt to describe quantum chromodynamics or recursive information compression to a child, I will not attempt to do so here either.

Fascinating. Would you describe to me how you reach such an interesting conclusion in the face of over whelming evidence to the contrary?

I am sure it will be very instructive.

There is extra terrestrial life, its been proven. If you look at it from any other planet, we are extra terrestrial life. There is nothing special about Earth, except that the combos needed to support life are here which is rare. We are in the Goldilocks zone, where water exists in liquid form. We have a rotating core, which shields us from the suns radiation. We have a moon that helps to ensure that there is water movement due to tides and the poles-tropical-poles circulation, so the water does not go stagnant. We have an atmosphere made up of gases given from the hot lava of the earth and oxygen given from early bacteria that lived in shallow waters, that used photosynthesis to take in gas and give out oxygen.

As for us seeing extra terrestrial life or them seeing us if advanced, I cannot see it, as even if you can travel at the speed of light, it is too far.

The rules of chemistry and physics are probably pretty similar in most places in the observable universe. So there will be problems with planets at temperatures near absolute zero (where the atoms don't move enough for any chemistry to happen) or those incredibly hot and/or ongoing fusion (where atoms and subatomic particles don't have any stability).

Now there are molecules that can exist in high pressure or high temperature environments that we don't see on earth. But the ones with an ability to form complex molecules (which are necessary to contain information) don't.

In short, despite having only seen a fraction of the universe, we know quite a bit about it. Rules like protons and neutrons forming elements, the elements being H, He, Li, Be, B, C, N, O etc. and each element forming certain bonds with others, are the rules of the universe. Sure, there might be some other universe, or other particles we can't even interact with - but then that's not the life we're talking about.

There's life out there. And there's going to be life using H2O, C and N, phosphate and all our familiar buddies. I'm fairly certain I won't be around if we ever find it. But it's nice to know that statistically it's probably there.

Inhumane or not humane primarily means lacking kindness, compassion, mercy and the like particularly for those suffering, distressed, downtrodden, etc. Other meanings of humane involve reducing suffering, not inflicting pain, or acting in a civilized manner.

Your mocking comments are unkind, demonstrate a lack of compassion, don't demonstrate mercy, could inflict emotional pain, etc.

I'm not saying you need to be PC or tolerant but you were deliberately inhumane.

Emotional pain?! From me pointing out that evolution is the natural consequence of existing and reproducing with a chance of mutation? Sorry if it's a view you don't like, but you better dry those tears and harden up!

for those who the topic interest, i have found one of the most interesting researchers has been dolores cannon who uses past life regression to look at the et subject.

There have been some rather good sightings in NZ
