The Babysitter 2017 [7/10] and The Babysitter-Killer Queen 2020 [6/10] on Netflix. Teen horror flicks.

There are so many things wrong with these two movies that we just kept drinking red and laughing. The standout fault is that the lead, Judah Lewis, was sixteen in 2017 and his character is meant to be 12 and in the second movie he is 19 with a 5 o'clock shadow and his character is meant to be 14. Bad editing, plot inconsistencies and a whole host of other faults that it would not surprise me if these two movies become cult like. Of course, because it is a teen horror movie, there is lots of blood and gore from impossible body origins.

Fill your glass and have a laugh. 🤣

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Wife and I watched Aladdin (Disney Plus) last night.

Actually quite enjoyed it - didn't know that Will Smith could sing passably. Never once thought of Robin Williams' animated Genie, as the films were so different, despite being the same story.

Some good CGI, too. I was waiting for a classic Guy Ritchie-ism to spring forth, but then remembered it was a Disney musical, so we were left waiting.

I do wonder though: Hollywood has long romanticised the Middle East of old...was it ever this splendiferous, or simply a hot/dry version of the Middle Ages in Europe?

Also - lots of the Middle-Eastern clothing/music/dancing appeared to have come directly from India.

Mulan 6/10

Standard Disney fare, high production values and well acted but nothing particularly special.

What I did find interesting was, after a diet of watching the boys, the witcher and tons of other graphic shows, Mulan had arrows and swords but no blood. While I'm not particularly a fan of gore, I did find the lack of it distractingt as it did sort of highlight the fakeness of the fight scenes.

gzt: Vice - 6.9/10. Steve Carell(!) as Donald Rumsfeld. Christian Bale as Dick Cheney VP. I gave this 10 minutes and ended up watching the whole thing over a couple of nights. The first 30 minutes or so are funny and horrifying at the same time. There's less Steve Carell from there unfortunately but the atmosphere more or less continues.

Also saw this on the weekend.

For a political documentary/dramatisation it's well paced with brilliant props and scenery for the 70s and 80s scenes. If half the stuff in the film is true then Dick Cheney was a very shrewd, ruthless and money-grabbing politician.

The film contains couple of scenes where Republicans try our new policy wording on focus groups and the film ends with a great but obviously made up scene set now.

Asked about the film, one group member says it has an obvious liberal bias. Another group member point out the movie makers had to ensure all the facts were true. Original group member responds with 'libtard', answered with 'because I have the ability to understand facts that makes me a liberal"?

It quickly descends into an argument about Hillary and Trump followed by a tussle on the floor of the meeting room.

Honestly, that scene is such an apposite metaphor for where America is now just 12 years after Cheney's reign.

Most of the posters in this thread are just like chimpanzees on MDMA, full of feelings of bonhomie, joy, and optimism. Fred99 8/4/21

He was an actor from the 90's (the Scream movies etc)
Its a doco of his road to redemption .
The path he followed to try & get some respect : He become a wrestler in his mid forties, despite a past heart attach & blood thinner med's .
getting clean then relapsing then getting clean .

Strangely , his new wife looks just like his old wife . A bit confusing as I couldnt tell which was which in some parts of the film .

8/10 . very watchable & enjoyable. Moves along at a good pace . A feel good movie .

I have not seen the movie. In general, yes. Baghdad was the centre of an empire in the 9th century and usually estimated as the largest city in the world at that time. Enormous spending on arts and culture type activities by any modern standard. Imo the modern taliban would not be happy with it.

Coincidentally I've just seen Will Smith voice a character in A Shark's Tale. Netflix. There's something scary about Robert DeNiro voicing a shark mafia don in a kids cartoon. Other than that, it's an average moral tale. 6/10.

Didn't find it too long. Might not get the same repeat viewing as Nolan's others but still really enjoyed it - The Good Lady wants to see it again!

Zero Hour! (1957)

I have wanted to see this film for a while. As I was pre-ordering Back To The Future (UHD), I decided to add the Zero Hour! DVD (no sign of a Blu-ray for this title) to my Amazon order.

Zero Hour! is one of those B-grade disaster movies about an aircraft in peril. On this occasion, food poisoning has left the pilot, co-pilot and flight engineer incapacitated. Unable to land before the pilot is fully incapacitated, the task getting the plane on the ground safely and the sick to hospital on time falls to one man, a former military pilot who hasn't flown since the war and was only on the flight pursuing his partner who had just left him.

Does this sound familiar? If it does, it's because the 1980 comedy classic Airplane! follows essentially the same story. Airplane! is often assumed to be based on numerous airplane disaster movies from the '70s, however, it is in fact based primarily on Zero Hour!, with much of the dialogue directly taken from the 1957 film.

Zero Hour! was a strange experience because in many cases I knew the next line of dialogue even though I'd never seen the film. That said, as serious disaster movies go, it wasn't all bad. I'll give it a respectable 5/10 on its own merits, and an 8/10 recommendation if you're an Airplane! fan. Be warned, some of those great Airplane! lines may not be as original as you think.

Saw this a couple of months ago. Couldn't help but think of Airplane all thru the movie. Also the producers of Airplane bought the rights for Zero Hour hence the simalar dialog without being sued.

you have to see the steps of odessa on a big screen

Green Book - Netflix

Set in 1962 about a pianist Don Shirley and his salt of the earth Italian driver chauffeuring him to concerts in the Deep South of America - based on a true story.

There was a smile on my face during the entire movie and it’s effect was still there in the morning. We really enjoyed it.

Spies in Disguise - Neon - 7/10 A good solid animation family movie - lots of fun.

The Gentlemen - Neon - 9/10. Make sure you tuck the kiddies in before you watch this one. Another really good Guy Richie movie of Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels fame with very similar; writing, direction & production styles.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Enola Holmes on Netflix. 8/10. I really like Millie Bobby Brown and she did an excellent job in this movie. The story isn't the greatest although it's entertaining enough, the real reason for watching this movie is for Millie Bobby Brown.

A good sci-fi movie called "April and the Extraordinary World"

Don't be turned off by the stupid title.

An alternate earth history, where the word remains in the steam age, without the World Wars, electricity or petroleum through the 1940's.

Redubbed into English on NetFlix.

As usual, there's not much French sci-fi, but when some is produced, it's invariably exceptional.
