Also RNZ, when did the people of Auckland elect "Wayne Bornw"?
Diesel vehicle pollution is an unseen killer – Neil Kirton
paywalled.
Neil Kirton is a Hawke’s Bay Regional Councillor and chair of the Regional Transport Committee.
"Diesel vehicles in particular are heavy producers of NO2 and PM2.5. Diesel produces far more of these harmful contaminants than other engine sources because diesel engines operate at higher pressure during combustion, this favours NO2 production which reacts with the air, producing a fine soot that we breathe in.."
"
New Zealand’s outdated emission standards for vehicles means that vehicle manufacturers and importers have a free run to supply poorly performing vehicles that do not comply with international emission standards. Most developed countries have much stricter vehicle emission requirements. These include particulate filters on exhaust systems and catalytic reducers."
i'm surprised the herald did not fact check this. its highly incorrect.
NOx production is caused by combustion temp, not because of "operating pressure". they are worse than petrol because the use a lot more air. petrol's produce NOx as well. more nitrogen in the burning mix so more NOx can be made. thats why engines have used egr systems since the 70's to lower combustion temps and replace some of the air to stop NOx forming. NOx does not "react with the air producing fine soot", most of the soot is a by-product of the low temp burning caused by adding egr. soot production goes up exponentially with egr instruction rates. which is why we have soot filters to catch the bulk of the soot. the other main factor in NOx is ambient air temp.
all new vehicles sold in nz comply with international standards. all new diesels have cats and dpf's. we run euro5, compared to many overseas countries running euro6 emission standards. the main difference is addblue which reduces NOx. so they can dial back the egr a bit, produce less soot and let addblue clean up the NOx.

Many people spend time at the gym these days. There are other similar articles in the wellbeing section. Browsing by section is the best way to avoid topics you're not interested in. Maybe start in the news section:
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news
That WAS in the news section, or at least on the front page. I don't have an issue with the item, I just felt the prominence it was given was slightly out of place, alongside all the rapes and bombings and other things that some people find important.

gzt: Homepage is similar to the front page of newspapers. That particular story is in the 'life' section. Like a newspaper there are stories on the front page to draw you to that section if you are interested.
Fair enough. It still felt out of place to me, hence my comment. Opinions differ. Moving on.

You lose access to your WiFi because the fibre's broken...and somehow high voltage power distribution is involved?
(The article was from Saturday, when I checked this morning the photo was changed to a different stock photo and reference to WiFi was removed.)

Ah yes ... except this picture shows lanes splitting, not merging.
We drive on the left in NZ, Stuff.

Makes me think of that commercial with a dog driving the car, except that the steering is on the left side. If you want me to even consider buying your product, at least take the trouble to flip the made for America image! Yes, People do notice.

Yes, this is something Americans are known for... They don't have "fibre" or "cable". They have "Wi-Fi" as in "The Wi-Fi at home is not working", meaning Internet access is down. For some people, it's the last hop, anything else is... "black magic"

This photo in this RNZ article about the new(ish) passport rules for British citizens.

It's been more than six years.
Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.
Stuff, today. Why should "the rest of New Zealand" watch and "react" to Trump's speech? Are we a US state now?

Not a NZ example (https://www.boredpanda.com/home-improvement-star-zachery-ty-bryan-handed-jail-sentence-after-arrest/), nor a headline, but how is 0.15 double 0.08? Also, unnecessary censorship.
"The 44-year-old pleaded guilty to driving with a blood alc*hol content (BAC) of 0.15 percent or higher, double the .08 percent legal limit."

Well I guess that’s what you get when you read “celebrities, crime” on a crap website. 😀
Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
