Geektastic: I’m sure I’m late to the party but..

What3words.

Just totally amazing. Navigation that actually takes you to exactly where you want to go and allows you to share any location - anywhere on the planet - with just three words.

Just astonishing.

I used What3words years ago in Japan when organizing hanami (flower viewings, basically getting together in large parks with friends and drinking huge amounts) as you could specify exactly which part of the park you were in.

Simply say "cargo.alien.reddish." None of this "head past the public loos, turn right at the truck selling chicken on sticks, go 50 meters and look for the Australian doing emu impressions" sort of thing.

I also used this recently to tell someone how to find a friend's place out in the country, as the address shown by Google maps was the center of the property, whereas the entrance was 700 m away, in a different district.

That sounds fun. I love Japan. The orderliness and formal manners are refreshing!

I’d also love to be able to speak Japanese.

Calling the insurance company and only waiting 20 mins to get to a human. Then said human putting me on hold immediately while he reviewed the file. I expected to have to go through the whole sorry saga with him on his return, but he simply came back on and asked if I was calling about the invoices I'd sent through last week.
I said yes and he said, "Great, I'll authorise those for payment today".

Happy days.

I'm a great fan too. Have the app on phone as like using it to remind myself where I left the car at big events or to find friends at big events.
Also want to get one of those letterbox signs with the three words for my house but she won't let me.

Getting a tour of a pretty decent-sized engineering firm and seeing what cool things they can make with their machines. I think a lot of people would be surprised what we can and do manufacture in NZ.

Finding out that Sky Sport will be losing all of the football content that beIN offers outside of the Premier League this year.

My team has just been relegated to the Championship, so I'll be ditching the $38 Sky Sport channels and taking up the $12.99 beIN subscription to watch my team this year.

Winning all round

https://help.sky.co.nz/s/article/beIN-SPORTS-Changes

What’s happening?

From Monday 31 July, 2023 at 11.59pm, Sky Sport 7 will no longer be showing beIN content including on Channel 57, On Demand and Sky Go. The beIN Connect App will no longer be available to Sky Sport customers as a complimentary service.

Why is beIN SPORTS content leaving Sky?

As part of our constant evaluation of programming and channels we have made the decision not to renew our partnership with beIN SPORTS.

Exactly what content will no longer be available with beIN Sport agreement discontinuing?

Football content from beIN that we will no longer carry from 1 August 2023:

  • Bundesliga & Playoffs 2023-24
  • Bundesliga 2 & Playoffs 2023-24
  • Carabao Cup 2023-24
  • Copa Libertadores 2023
  • Coupe de France Men 2023-24
  • Coupe de France Women 2023-24
  • EFL Championship & Playoffs 2023-24
  • EFL League 1 & Playoffs 2023-24
  • EFL League 2 & Playoffs 2023-24
  • German Super Cup 2023-24
  • Ligue 1 2022-23
  • Recopa Sudamericana 2023
  • Scottish League Cup (Viaplay Cup)
  • Serie A & Playoff
  • SPFL Premiership & Playoffs
  • SPFL Championship & Playoffs
  • Trophee des Champions 2023-24
  • Man U TV (Delayed)
  • Liverpool TV (Delayed)
  • Arsenal TV (Delayed)
  • Chelsea TV (Delayed)
  • Premier Padel Major (4)
  • Premier Padel P1 (4)

A somewhat puzzled smile, but not enough to go into the "annoys you" thread.

Don't catch trains much in Wellington, but am currently volunteering at the FIFA Women's World Cup and due to the weather when my shift finished at 9pm, walked down through the stadium carpark and the full length of platform 9 to stay under cover and discovered this Snapper tag on/off reader at the far end of the platform that apparently someone has forgotten to commission - or do they just not get down that way much? 😀

Looking up JCF427 (Was parked over the Street) on carjam.co.nz and seeing it's photo that someone has uploaded showing it completely blocking the Cycleway on Lochee Road!

Well they managed to get all the others up and running in November 2022, so...

Do they do general tours or was it a special because you know the owner? Sounds interesting.

Mrs Handle submitted her masters dissertation today. She’s still got a round of feedback but she’s pretty much done after 2 years of working full time and studying part time. I couldn’t be prouder.

I sort of know the owner.

What machines can do today and what we can do with machines, is really quite something.
