Yes, I really like his productions - the dialog is really smart and fast. The stories are interesting.

I just have this thing about court case movies...

I hope he doesn't do another tv show. The last two have been bitter preachy nonsense, which is why they didn't rate well. I can do without another sermon that network tv is dumb or a sketch tv show that doesn't have good jokes.

His films are better, probably because he has less control and generally focusses on what he is brilliant at, writing dialogue.

I couldn't disagree more, I love his shows. I tend to be easily able to ignore the preachy if I ever find it that, which I don't, that often.

If you don't like them, you know it's 100% optional to watch them right? :) He can make them for the rest of us who enjoy them, and you can just not partake :)

The West Wing is my favourite show and I really enjoy most of his movies. When he skips the sermons most of his stuff is exceptional. His later TV shows weren't good, if you liked them then that's great.

Same here! But, it's a tightly fought contest between that and the Newsroom :)

He's a better writer than director.

Bladerunner 2049 Netflix. 7/10. Worthy successor to the original, not so horrible even tho there is more blood. Easily deserves a sequel.

Borat: Subsequent Moviefilm. Seemed far more mean spirited than the original to me, they were just trying to shock and embarrass people. Also the first one was making fun of America in general, this was making far more of an anti-Trump political statement and the movie suffered because of it IMO. I think a lot more of it was probably staged as well compared to the original. 3.5/10.

Yes, definitely more staged. And agree, he chose easy targets this time around, so I felt a bit guilty laughing at times, but I did laugh. Lots. 8/10

Trial of the Chicago 7 Netflix. The opening 20 something minutes gives the impression this will be a boring trial movie. Baron-Cohen's American accent attempt is irritating. The jokes are flat. I switched off and returned later. Somewhere after that it takes off and becomes compelling with equal parts comedy and drama, and outside action scenes. Even Baron-Cohen's accent improves. 7/10.

Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Amazon Prime video

Some good, genuine laughs, but it was clearly an anti-Trump movie and not as even in its sharing of the embarrassment.

I liked it, sort of. I also thought some of it was a bit...meh.

Still shocks me that those kinds of people openly behave the way they do in public. And their president condones and encourages it.

7/10 from me.

Drive 8/10 DVD

Relatively early Ryan Gosling effort with a strong cast including Carrie Mulligan, Brian Cranston and Ron Perlman.

RG plays a getaway/stunt driver who gets involved with both his next door neighbor played by Mulligan and the local hoods/mafia. He cultivates the long, unblinking stare to good effect (stolen from Andy Garcia I always thought) and the overall atmosphere is excellent.

Great soundtrack too.

Greenland 7/10.

Maybe that score is too high but, unusually enough for a movie involving a disaster and a Gerald Butler disaster at that, I sat through the movie without any major frustration.

* The trailer led me to believe that this would be a movie full of disaster action, more like 2012. But it isn't.

* It was probably for the better that it wasn't Gerald Butler in "save the president" mode because it gave more scope for other actors to have a major part e.g. in a split story-line.

* The plotting was a little too convenient in places e.g. in one circumstance people do A but in another similar circumstance people do B just to fit the storyline.

How many movies do I have to watch where people with children forget to do what they always tell their children to do. Adults, if you think you might get lost then arrange beforehand where you are going to reconnect. Everyone, wait at the last spot you saw each other.

Rogue Warfare on Neon. 1 / 10.

I struggle to describe just how poor this movie is. It's pitched as an action movie and it does have people prancing round in cammo gear and bad guys dropping like flies.

It fails to be convincing in any of the ways you expect from an action movie. It has good guys who look the part but are given such thin roles to play that when one got shot I didn't care.

The good guys have a motley collection of weapons and wave them round aimlessly like 6 year olds with light sabres. Every shot takes down a bad guy while the bad guys never get lucky - standard movie fare. They have a very small collection of war toys to play with and don't seem to use them in a sensible way. For example, a mission turns to poop and a satellite is then stationed over head. Ever heard of getting a drone overhead BEFORE you need it?

I'm pretty sure there's a couple of short sections where they repeat footage and hope noone notices.

The script is soo bad - the bag guy leader makes speeches which go on so long all the bad guys must be wishing they could check their phones to see what they're missing out on. The good guy leader barks out meaningless trite BS. There's no humour whatsoever.

There's RW2 AND 3 as well so I'm going to see if they get better. Or at a long shot, worse.

Good news if you've been waiting to see Tenet. The digital and bluray release is December 15th! Will definitely be picking it up on 4k.
