It has been corrected as of 1305

But yes - poor or no editing again by on-line news broadcasters

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

The other day RNZ was suggesting using an app called "Gatsby" to look at fuel prices.

It's great apparently.

'Don't panic-buy': How to legally store petrol as prices spike and pumps start running dry

Yeah not a helpful headline award for that effort.

In this case, I don't think it's their problem. This is the way the world is.

I'm all for adding good news stories on the front page, especially given how awful the rest of the news cycle is. But what some golfer has for dinner - isn't it.

I'm not referring to the content of the story. My point is that the world is full of contradictions. People on the other side of the border are still eating and drinking, and most of the time are unaware of the ongoing war just next door. The paper reflects the way the world is.

Well - rather the way we prefer to view the world - news as entertainment.

All the problems and serious issues of the world are there, if we care to look...

But that takes time that could more enjoyably be spent on entertainment.

It's not really a new issue - Rome spoke of bread & circuses.

Sorry for bringing a political one in here...

"[...] Trump, who joined Israel in attacking Iran nearly four weeks ago"

It wasn't even three weeks ago!

gzt:

It's an attention getting headline but it's accurate.

The article itself is solid. Imo our news media overall is excellent.

Edit: Anyone can dispute this further in the media topic if needed ; ).

Respectfully, I dispute it. Of course we have odd exceptions and pockets of excellence, but overall our news media are, in my humble, inexpert, consumer opinion, fairly pathetic. ABC has running news and commentary updates most of the day. We have a half-hour total at most, even less if some earth-shattering sports injury edges it out.

You're talking about frequency of updates and the length of the broadcast for NZ free to air TV I think.

I have not watched free to air TV for a long time but I imagine they still have the morning and evening news with a short midday bulletin.

I guess I use Radio NZ hourly if there is anything I need updates on. I sometimes use the TVNZ website which is updated with new stories frequently. There are several other sites I use less frequently.

Between the Cook Strait? What does that mean exactly?

Passenger and freight ferry Connemara was docked at port this morning after a technical fault was found onboard, affecting trips between the Cook Strait.

https://www.1news.co.nz/2026/03/22/six-crashes-in-14-hours-leave-two-dead-others-hurt-across-nz/

Meanwhile, Ōhura Rd on SH43/Forgotten World Highway was blocked following a single-vehicle crash.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 11.30am.

Motorists were advised to delay their travel.

Further south, the NZ Transport Agency said SH20 had been closed between the Neilson St and Queenstown Rd off-ramps, with police saying northbound lanes were blocked.

No 1news, Taranaki is not north of Auckland.
