We're into our Christmas movies now. So far we've had Die Hard (1) and Home Alone (1).

My youngest (12) is a bit <meh> about things like Home Alone now but I enjoy the first two even if I know all the dialog - nice night for a neck injury!

I've seen Christmas with the Cranks a few times and I imagine that'll get another run too.

Assasins Creed 5/10 DVD

OKish action move with decent CGI. My big gripe though is with the subtitles. There is a fair bit where the language used needs subtitles but they are so small and faint that they are almost impossible to read so whatever happens in that part of the movie is pretty much a complete mystery.

There is also a bit of preamble to the film that sets the scene and that has the same problem. Maybe it shows up OK on a cinema screen but it sure doesn't on my TV.

And I've seen many other films with the same problem. The 3 original Dragon Tattoo movies were all subtitled and, from memory, 2 were very well subtitled and the other equally poorly.

I sometimes wonder if the people who apply the subtitles ever look at the finished product. Do they not know that white subtitles on a white background means you can't read them.

We will almost certainly break out what is undisputably the best Christmas Movie ever made, Love Actually.

But before that, I watched Ava last night, really enjoyed it, 7.5/10

Heathen. Die Hard is the one true Christmas movie. In fact, it officially isn't Christmas until Hans Gruber falls from Nakatomi Plaza.

Watched The Last Full Measure the other day. Outstanding movie based on the true events surrounding William Pitsenbarger and his Medal of Honor nomination for actions during the Vietnam war.

I love me some Die Hard, don't get me wrong, and I feel it makes a Christmas, Christmas, but I loves me some L.A!

The Right Stuff - DVD - 7/10

Had to watch this after Chuck Yeager died this week. Average sort of movie but interesting looking behind the scenes of the early NASA astronaut programme.

You have to have sympathy for Yeager who was probably the best test pilot of all (except for his tendency to just go for it) who was overlooked for the astronaut programme just because he wasn't college educated. Especially when others, like Gus Grissom were poor choices.

Average ?

It's a superb translation of the Tom Wolfe book into a live action cartoon.

Three hours goes by in a blink of an eye.

Unlike the turgid mess that is Wonder Woman 1984.

Silly, tired story, bad acting, awful music, even bad CGI, it's two hours too long.

I would have asked for a refund but was comped some tickets.

😜

Wonder Woman 1984

Terrible just terrible , a lot of crappy cgi , Kristin Wiig was pretty good as Cheetah but they should have left her in her human form, The white house look was way way better.

Story line was dribble and boring as hell, so many cliche's.

3/10 , just so disappointing all round really, if this is what the DC universe is going to look like just stop it stop it now.

The CGI was terrible. Her running was broken, looked like they missed a step in the CGI.....

A couple of oldies.

Back to the Future 7/10 Netflix. To me it's aged surprisingly well. Still an entertaining watch.

Ghostbusters 4/10 Netflix. Unfortunately this hasn't. Bill Murray's acting style really grated on my nerves even though I normally quite like him.

And something more recent

Midnight Sky 3/10 Netflix original. Tedious apocalyptic sci-fi tale with George Clooney. Avoid.

Darkest minds 3/10
A weird combo of young adult dystopia and xmen.
Boring, not enough action, all the tension releases feel unearned, and overly predictable.
100 % setup for a sequel or franchise, but 100% not deserved.

Watched Midnight Sky on Netflix yesterday and actually thought it deserved 6/10.

Watched Bombshell on TVNZ on Demand - drama based on the investigation into the Rainbow Warrior bombing. New Zealand, made, quite well done - 7/10.
