RNZ:

The Gull station in Auckland’s Schnapper Rock has run out of all grades of petrol and diesel.

It’s a self-operating station, but a staff member at the nearby Albany Foodmarket said the store had been very quiet since it ran out of fuel.

She was unsure when it will receive a delivery.

Good grief. Why in the world would a random staff member at a random shop have any idea about Gull's logistics?! They might as well ask the cat!

The druid wasn't talking about Wellington, obviously.

The weather here doesn't seem to improve, regardless.

Not sure which part of Wellington you're in boss, but the bit I'm standing in has blue sky in every direction, and not a gust of wind.

It's an illusion. It will be cold and miserable very soon.

Also, it's one of the two sunny days out of three already used for the year.

RNZ: Runs eight-paragraph article about "the" world cup. Doesn't bother to mention which sport it is.

...2028 T20 World Cup...

Either it's been minorly updated, or you potentially missed that one acronym that sets context.

I am assuming some form of Cricket based on that.

Nope, I didn't miss it: that's my very criticism. Like you said, you assume it's cricket based on a letter and two numbers, when the word "cricket" doesn't appear anywhere in the article.

I would have no clue from T20 alone.

I can cut the writer some slack - but only because I know that Gull station...

The 'nearby Albany Foodmarket' is, in fact, the old payment kiosk & convenience store situated within the Fuel forecourt. Gull closed it when the pumps went to pay-at-the-pump and then (after a year or so) it re-opened under it's new name.

So, I suspect the staff member would be _extremely_ interested in when Fuel would re-appear.
Likely 90+ % of their business would be fuel customers - as that location would get zero walk-by trade.
If I were working there, I'd certainly have rung up my contacts at Gull - from whom I rent my premises...

Book extract from Barbara Dreaver's new book:

"Shops, especially supermarkets, can be problematic. I stick with ones where the staff know me and are protective. One day I was closely shadowed around the aisles by a man who looked to be in his early sixties. At the checkout he planted himself behind me, yelling at me to talk to him. After the checkout operator waved for a security officer he backed off, but he followed me outside and watched from a few metres away as I loaded up the car. As I drove out of the car park, he was still there, standing and staring. Another time a woman came up to me in the entry to a supermarket, hissing that I worked for an organisation run by Freemasons. “And demons,” she added for good measure."

Conspiracy nuts are everywhere. It usually starts with 'MSM' and gets worse from there ime.

I'm not sure this is a dumb headline, as it didn't originate as an error or omission from the publication.

That is true. I sometimes post media commentary in this topic to balance the general media criticism. I guess I've been thinking of it as the NZ media and general media comments thread. Similar for media ownership news.

TVNZ One News tonight reporting on Artemis II:

“When they approach the Earth they’ll be travelling at 40,000 kph - but will soon slow down when the parachute opens”.

TVNZ reporter just outside Canberra: “They’re being tracked by this huge satellite dish - which works like a mobile phone - just a lot bigger”.

FFS.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
