I was looking for something cheesy to watch on Tubi and started to watch Jurassic Shark. It was so bad I bailed after 6 torturous minutes. The acting was shocking.

SJB:

Sunset Boulevard 7/10 DVD

Stars William Holden and Gloria Swanson in a story about a screenwriter who gets tangled up with an old silent movie film star who is losing her mind. Pretty atmospheric and Swanson puts in a great performance. Directed by Billy Wilder which is never a bad thing.

If you like old movies (1950) it's worth a watch.

Wonder Woman 1984 (WW84)

All the poor reviews on IMDB were correct.  I give it 3/10, 1 point for Gal just because she is awesome and pulls off the WW persona very well, 1 point for Chris Pine, just a good all round actor, and 1 for Kristen Wigg who played her part well despite the terrible lines she was given.

Other than that the movie had no redeeming features whatsoever past the first 8 minutes.  Story line was a disjointed mess with plot holes that are just so large as to be laughable or just completely pointless, terrible  CGI, a final showdown that was so short blink and you will miss it, and so many questions with that ending?????  Not even a poor cousin to the first movie.  I really wanted to enjoy this, but I wished I had avoided it.

Just saw this. 3/10 is pretty generous. The first instalment was a surprisingly good effort compared to other DC superhero movies - but this was a hot mess inside a dumpster fire.

Would recommend to anyone who enjoys bad acting, bad dialog, nonsensical plot, massive logic gaps, and bad special effects.

There really was nothing to like about this movie.

"Death to 2020" mockumentary on Netflix. Hilarious. But so much truth behind the jokes.

Christmas chronicles 2
7.5/10

Feel good Xmas movie my kids 8 and 11 absolutely loved. Lots of feel good moments including a touching plot twist. Kurt Russell makes a pretty convincing father Xmas and goldie hawn was great as well.

Miracle on 34th street. 9.5/10 fantastic as always. (The later version I haven't seen the original)

Hobbs & Shaw - finally got around to watching this. Enjoyed it for what it is. Put your brain on park, and enjoy the banter and action sequences. Johnson & Statham have good chemistry but would have got tiring over the whole movie but they cleverly included the sister plus even the bad guy plus a couple of cameos into the banter which worked. Can't get over how Statham's character, Deckard Shaw, killed a whole bunch of cops in the opening scene of Furious 7 but they gloss over it and now he's a good guy. Anyway 7/10

Wonder Woman 84 - was ok. Saw it on the big screen and felt good to sit in a theatre again. Nice spin to the bad guy routine but waaaay too long. Could have cut or shortened a few scenes. Also for a movie set in the 80's there was a noticeable lack of 80's music. 6/10

Also Chris Pine looked old - maybe it's because the director likes lots of closeup shots and you see all his wrinkles. Had to look up afterwards to see who the oldest of the Chris' were (Pratt 41, Pine 40, Evans 39, Hemsworth 37 FYI)

The Midnight Sky - avoid. I mean it. Makes you wonder how these movies get a big budget signoff. This movies is just a mess I don't know where to start. 1/10

Caught this in the Embassy with the whole family as an opportunity to have an outing.  The last movie I saw this year was Tenet in the same place.

A few observations

1. Movie was too long and apparently WB objected to the two opening sequences but the director vetoed it

2. SFX pretty average

3. Not enough actual Wonder Woman in the movie

4. Villain not particular evil

5. Not enough Atmos effects :-(

The family, having seen the first movie (for the first time) the night before, though it wasn't as good as the first.

It's hard to see how they could make another one but it's been green lit already..

Don't know. I rented the DVD from Aro Video in Wellington and they don't offer a Blu-ray version..

They have an excellent catalogue though and a mail out/return service. Highly recommended.

Watched The Castle, Australian movie 1997 on Ch2 last night. 8/10 because it kept me smiling throughout. It had an unsophisticated innocence about it that was positive and touching.

WW84 on the big screen.

Enjoyed the movie quite a bit from a fan perspective.  I think from a non-fan perspective it might not make sense as a lot of the back-story draws from the books/comics (e.g. Minerva) and TV series.

I like the character General Antiope (played by Robin Wright) so would like to have seen more of her as well as Venelia who has superhuman strength and agility (Doutzen Kroes).

I think the main difference is that this movie is a sequel, so didn’t need the setup that the original movie did, and it didn’t need the Justice League references for the other movies (Wonder Woman was a founding member of the Justice League).

I enjoyed the opening sequence as it showed the Amazons as already being super heroines and sets things up for later in the movie. Wasn’t expecting a second opening sequence but it did set up the body of the movie.

A couple of cool new super powers appeared and I thought the joke about the cup funny.

Drawbacks for me were mainly to do with the CGI - especially with the lasso.

Great to see Lynda Carter as the character Asteria as well.

Seems to be a few 1080 rips out, so suppose there is a legit source out there.

I don't even remember that. Perhaps it was during one of the many times I rolled my eyes so hard they got stuck facing backwards.

Even if more knowledge of the comics made it make more sense (and that's a big if), it was still a mess of a movie IMO. And if a movie relies on viewers being familiar with backstory from the comics then that's another failure on it's own.

I'm glad someone enjoyed it though.

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty DVD 7/10

Pretty entertaining Ben Stiller movie with some outstanding landscape shots and some chuckling moments rather than outright laughs.

Nothing like the Danny Kaye version or the short story.

my mrs and I have been on a bit of a horror buzz lately

last couple we watched:

Better Watch Out
wow good movie, utterly psychotic baddie, I can't say any more without spoiling it, but if you're into horrors with dark humour, and some rather gruesome kills, definitely watch this movie. 9/10

Anna and the Apocalypse
I didn't know anything about this aside that it's a zombie movie, I certainly did not expect it to be a musical. Mrs loved it but she is a huge fan of musicals, however I'm really not a fan of musicals, otherwise it was alright. 5/10 from me, mrs says it's a 9/10
