Pak'nSave self checkout. When you get to the payment stage the audio instructions are "Insert card or select a payment method to continue." This makes zero sense - you haven't selected the payment method, so why would you insert the card? I tried doing just that, and naturally absolutely nothing happens - it's waiting for the input of payment method selection.

AirBnB app wants my wife's birth date but only gives me the option to select the date from the calendar. There's no way I'm pressing the left arrow 600 times to get 1972, so she was born on 22 Oct 2025.

One thing I like about Woolworth's self checkouts. If you go to a card only one, it automagically selects 'card'. Most of the others, even for card only tills, still make you press 'card'.

@TinyTim you can usually tap on the year on top to flick through the years.

Usually - but in this case it took me back to this month.

That's what I try in such cases but it irks me that the input object looks the same as all the other display objects.

To be honest, the whole AirBnB process is braindead - at least for setting up as a host (I've never used it as a traveller but a few people tell us they don't like to use it when travelling)

My wife signed up then invited me as a co-host, and we went through vastly different processes. I had to give all her details as a partner in our partnership, but she didn't have to give mine.

I had to validate my identity (scan the passport photo then take a selfie) but never got a confirmation or update - no email, notification or internal message. There was no progress updates in any of the set up sections. So I turned to Help: Get Help > Visit the Help Center, and what?? there was the message saying they couldn't do the validation and to try again.

So I finally got validated (after ignoring the warning the passport page was obscured because it wasn't) but it had forgotten the invitation from the wife - she had to re-invite me, and then this time we connected.

And so on.  Goodness knows what it'll be like when it's live. I hope other sites like booking.com are better.

Microsoft Teams.

Anyone that's used it will know I needn't say more.

I'm not without gripes about AirBNB as a greedy multi-national corporate.

However, as a traveller (can't speak for hosting) I find both the mobile app (Android) and the web UI pretty good and easy to use.  The filters work well and the map zoom is effective. A big change came a couple of years ago where they would show initial prices when browsing without fees (cleaning and service).  That was annoying and off-putting but now it's what you see is what you pay.

Sometimes I use big words I don't always fully understand in an effort to make myself sound more photosynthesis.

I was using the google play store but other apps and sites do this as well.

I clicked on the search symbol at the bottom, you know, the circle with the line. The play store knew I wanted to search so it showed the search bar - but at the opposite end of the screen from where I started.

However, the keyboard was not enabled in the search bar so I had to move to the top of the app, tap inside the search bar to enable the keyboard, then move back to the bottom to enter text.

Come on google you can do better. I dont have all day to shag about on my phone.

@elpenguino this is the same for many Android apps that have a search feature. The usual workaround: hit the search symbol a second time, and your keyboard should appear.

Thanks for the tip - this would still take an extra tap but save travelling the distance twice.

Seems so unnecessary - why would a user press search if they don't want to enter something in the search box?

I absolutely agree. For now I've settled for the additional click, since it's easier than getting Google to do anything about it. I tried swearing at my phone, but it didn't work.

When you go to Booking.com, one of the primary filters at the top of the page is now many rooms you want. As far as I can tell, your selection here is completely ignored. I pick "2 adults, 0 children, 2 rooms" and it gives me a whole bunch of places with two beds in a single room.

Yay! More Microsoft Word stupidity. "Congratulations, Copy-Paste just got better! We've updated your default Paste options - the default option is now "merge formatting!"

Err... has anyone at Microsoft considered asking customers if they wanted this change? At least as joke, you know - "Hey bro, I've had this crazy dream where we had to ask our customers if they wanted to change how copy-paste worked. Too funny, right? I better stay off the pills for a while, they seem to be messing up my brain."
