I said I have video proof that it swallowed it! Truck arm goes up with the bin and then comes down without it!

@msukiwi Can you post this video proof? I think it needs to be reviewed by the GZ community for legitimacy laughs.

I wonder how often that happens. You'd think the driver would know and send a new bin out automatically..

msukiwi:

Reported to the Christchurch City Council last Thursday that the Green Bin Truck (Green waste etc) was swallowed by the truck and could we have a bin please.

On the assumption that your bin would get ground up into smaller pieces by their machinery, at least your email to them and their reply covers you against any potential claim for damage due to your bin contaminating the green waste collection with chomped up plastic parts.

At that hour of the morning he's probably still asleep unlike the neighbourhood. I'm surprised your council collects between 6am & 6pm. They expect others to keep the noise down until 7.30am.

KiwiSurfer:

I wouldn't make a fuss - obviously a standard email template. The important thing is there is a replacement on the way and they have removed the old bin from the system. The rest of it is now their problem.

As I started reading the story I was certain it was going to end with the OP being saddled with a bill for the missing bin.

LoL and the truck has I Love Organics painted on it as it devours the plastic bin.

They expect people to keep the construction noise down before 7:30. The people turning up and idling their rangers from 6:45 and then talking about how their weekend was for 20 mins before 7:30 am is apparently fine for the council.

Going by the chemistry definition of organic, plastic is indeed included!

Auckland council rubbish collection contractors aren't supposed to start the route until 7:00 a.m. Unfortunately this meant the truck would idle outside our house (our previous house) from about 6:30. Frustrating...
