Once Upon A Time In Hollywood 9/10

Well on second viewing this has really grown on me. The first time it seemed like a movie in two halves with different story lines but second time around I appreciated how the different strands are interwoven from nearly the beginning. I think I also expected it to be in the style of say Pulp Fiction or The Hateful Eight and it's not.

Di Caprio and Brad Pitt (especially) put in tremendous performances. They look like they enjoy working together as well. Some of the supporting roles are really good too with Al Pacino putting a great effort.

And to top it all off there is still some trademark Tarrantino violence and humour. What more could you want?

**SPOILERS***

It was well made, but I just felt the alternate history ending was a bit unoriginal after he did the exact same thing in Inglorious Basterds.

+1. There is divided opinion on this film, but I rate it as Tarantino's best film.

Outside the Wire.

Had the bird guy from the Marvel films - Eagle, Hawk, Falcon ?

He plays a cyborg/robot in the future who plans to fire an old Russian missile at the good ol' USA

That's about as far as I got as it was an absolute snooze fest.

I do remember a few good instances of surround sound activity but the rest was zzzzzzzzzzzz

1/10

I didn't enjoy it much either, probably a 3/10 from me.

Interesting - watched it last night. Tried to be a bit bigger than it's boots and the 'twists' were kinda dumb and done better in other movies.

However as a fairly formulaic action scifi movie it did the job. 6/10

I watched (no - endured) George Clooney's latest Netflix effort: The Midnight Sky

It appears to be two films in one - a science fiction film set on a spacecraft and a post-apocalyptic terrestrial saga.

It's slow, disjointed and frankly boring.

Cinematography is excellent. Production value - top notch. Acting - not bad. Plot - missing, presumed dead. Explanation of what's going on - away having a holiday with the plot.

3/10 at best for me...and that's for the excellent production value.

The Day The Earth Stood Still. The proper one from 1951.

I have happy memories of this one.

It was the first full movie I 'obtained' from usenet.

Good times.

I've seen that and put it in the same boat as ad astra.

They've both got the star actors and appealing visuals.

What they're missing is a point. After watching both I couldn't tell you what either of them is actually about.

It really feels like on the whole, there are less movies that are really fantastic over the past few years.  I can't recall the last time I thought a movie was good enough to buy.  I don't love old movies that much, and recently action thrillers just seem very meh, no cool plots, or plot twists.

With such a long career it's easy to forget some of the excellent movies he has been in.

Philadelphia, Forest Gump, Apollo 13, Saving Private Ryan (possibly the best first 20 minutes of any film ever), The Green Mile, Road To Perdition, Charlie Wilson's War, Bridge Of Spies.

I agree with most of your list but it maybe just me but I find Forest Gump to be a tiresome load of rubbish

Charlie Wilson's War is possibly underrated. Phillip Seymour Hoffman puts in a great performance.

Get woke, go broke? I'm not sure if that is entirely it, but they do seem to be concentrating on the diversity value of the film rather than the story.

Wait, there was a "best bit"? I better watch it again to find out? Um, probably not.

There sure was. The end credits. It meant it was over. Never have I been more relieved.
