I see Netflix paid $647M for 2 more Knives out movies. I thought the first one was OK, hardly think about it for days or weeks afterward good, but OK. I wonder how they plan to recoup the costs? Seems a lot to make up at $20 a month regardless of how many extra people sign up to NF that weren't already there.

The Netflix business model isn't built on mass appeal, it's built on sticky properties and micro segmenting. If there are shows / films that a fairly small group must be able watch that is more valuable to them than a move or show that has casual appeal to a broad spectrum of viewers.

This gives a bit of an idea of what they do:

That seems like a hell of a lot of cash.

According to Wiki, the movie had a $40 million budget and took $311 million at the box office - so that was a very good investment.

Paying twice that for rights for two sequels seems a bit optimistic.

Disclaimer - I didn't like the movie - star-studded and awarded jolly old romp that it was. I got bored with it fast - and turned it off.

Godzilla vs Kong 7/10

Good action scenes but the story line is just stupid imo , Could have made this film so so much better with a better script.

Two story line's running in parallel seemed a waste with one of them contributing to I am not really sure what to be honest.

Worth seeing the two titans scraping it out though.

Zack Synder's Justice League

Well, it was really long. But to be fair, it didn't really feel like 4 hours - but I wouldn't say to "flew by" either. Far better than the theatrical release, but certainly not without it's issues. It still suffers from the fact that DC tried to play "catch-up" with Marvel and hadn't set up each hero with their own movie prior to doing Justice League.

It needed some more trimming down, and they really needed to drop the 'second ending' which was just a confusing setup for more direct sequels which at this point Snyder has to know will never happen. If they did that and trimmed it down to 3 hours then it would be a very passable superhero film.

Even for those who hated Batman v Superman and the theatrical release of Justice League (as I did) - I'd recommend giving Zack Snyder's Justice League a go. It's not just added scenes, it really is an entirely different movie as most (if not all) of Joss Whedon's reshoots were also removed.

6/10 (the theatrical release was maybe a 2/10)

I care a lot - Amazon Prime 8/10

The story is centred on someone who is ruthless and canny. She appears to meet her match part way through the movie but keep watching !

It's got elements from the world of heist and mob movies, and gets a bit dark.

I was surprised and kept interested. It's a good watch.

Parasite - Maori TV

Wow.. I'd high expectations and they were seriously exceeded. Loved Okja as well, but this is really something amazing. 10/10

Nobody - A very different kind of role for Bob Odenkirk, but he played the part well. At first the action was more realistic and believable than John Wick, but by the end it was equally as ridiculous (just not as slick). It also felt like a lot had been cut out to make it shorter, and it suffers for it. In the end it was perfectly watchable, but the biggest problem was you never really sympathized with (or particularly liked) the character. 5.5/10

I agree with this ^

I watched Nobody a couple of weeks ago (forgot to post a review), and had much the same thoughts.  The comparisons to John Wick are inevitable, and not entirely favourable.  In fact, last week I rewatched John Wick and it really just highlighted how good it is, especially compared to this clone.  Bob Odenkirk does a good enough job, but there's very little character development for him, and virtually none for anyone else.  I did notice that the action was a bit more "realistic" than John Wick - insofar as it didn't feel like he was playing it in "God" mode like it sometimes feels with John Wick - but the choreography wasn't as impressive.  It felt a bit like this was the Aliexpress version of John Wick...

Rewatched "Constantine" again (annual event for me) still 8/10. Just love this Keanu Reeves movie and beats John Wick by 1 point 7/10

I notice that John Wick 4 & 5 are in pre-production and Matrix 4 is in post-production.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Two good movies that should never have had sequels.

John Wick 4 & 5 will just be more of the same, but will undoubtedly make a bunch of money.

But Matrix 4 is just a terrible idea. The Wachowskis have only made 2 good movies in their careers, Bound and the first Matrix (and Bound was a very low budget movie that barely recouped it's budget). It's insane that studios keep throwing money at them more than 20 years later. Although I note one of them has the good sense to not be involved in the new one.

The Father

Anthony Hopkins is always good, and he doesn't fail here. Likewise Olivia Colman. A somewhat confusing and surreal movie (who tf was that bald-headed guy?), but that is clearly intentional. Funny and warm in parts, but overall quite sad. It could have been a stereotypical tear-jerker, but it isn't -- my wife (normally susceptible) was OK, although another woman in the audience was sobbing loudly. A good insight into memory loss, and its impacts on the people involved.

8/10

Another Wachowski disaster - Jupiter Ascending. One of the very worst films with a big budget that I have ever seen.

On the plus side Cloud Atlas was a reasonable effort with difficult material.
