The story is centred on someone who is ruthless and canny. She appears to meet her match part way through the movie but keep watching !

It's got elements from the world of heist and mob movies, and gets a bit dark.

I was surprised and kept interested. It's a good watch.

Mind blowing, eye-opener.

After hearing multiple people tell me they had watched this (a la MadEngineer) I decided to give it a try.

As a vehicle to make the film makers point it was excellent and thought provoking, and not one I disagree with. But this is a thread about movies and not the rights and wrongs of the fishing industry, so my comments are solely to do with that.

It is a great example of the ‘Michael Moore School of Cinematography’. Extensive interviews with people that have extreme views, counterbalanced by ‘attempts’ to interview the other side, using ambush questioning, secret filming or escaping authorities (by driving on the wrong side of the road in Thailand in one case). And where would this type of documentary be without a juicy conspiracy to uncover?

Also quoting headlines by activist journalists for press organisations such as The Independant or showing Wikipedia pages as authoritative sources adds gravitas, but not authority. Likewise, numerous graphs that had no attribution, while others had attribution, but when you looked at the fine print, they weren’t from independent sources either.

Another Wachowski disaster - Jupiter Ascending. One of the very worst films with a big budget that I have ever seen.

On the plus side Cloud Atlas was a reasonable effort with difficult material.

My biggest gripe with Cloud Atlas was how they used prothetics to make the actors look Asian for some of the futuristic sequences, and I think tried to make an Asian actress look like a European redhead at one point? It might have made sense for the plot, but it looked ridiculous.

The American on NetFlix. 6/10. George Clooney acting is really good but the whole movie is a slow boiler. Great Italian settings.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Stowaway - I was immediately disappointed when I realized that, despite being a "Netflix Film", it was only in 1080p SDR. It only got worse form there. Skip it. 3/10

I can't really point out the problems with this movie without giving a lot away so:

** SPOILERS BELOW THIS POINT **

The premise itself was interesting enough: Days into a 5 month flight to Mars the crew discovers an extra passenger. But it was just executed so poorly. Crew of 3: a pilot, a doctor, and a botanist... no 2nd officer, no engineer? The only concern was oxygen, they never even mentioned that they would all have to also go on restricted diets to make the food last. Their CO2 scrubber got fried from a small amount of damage and there was apparently no backup for this vital system. I can forgive some of this to create the dilemma of the movie, but the unforgivable part is the ultimate solution to the problem. Without getting into the plot specifics, according to this film a tank of liquid oxygen (roughly the size of a scuba tank) apparently holds enough for a single person to breath for 5 months!

It's so dull I gave up after 20 mins, which is something I am loathe to do normally.

I realised later that dullness is something a lot of new space movies suffer from, as if too much money was spent on sets and CGI and not enough on the script.

Most of the posters in this thread are just like chimpanzees on MDMA, full of feelings of bonhomie, joy, and optimism. Fred99 8/4/21

Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials 6.9/10

The original was a watchable teen sci-fi flick. The sequel takes it up several notches. It's still noticeably a teen movie, now with more incidental characters, scenery and breathtaking big screen action. I'm already looking forward to the next one.

The Mitchells vs. The Machines - Netflix 7/10 - A fabulous family animated movie - great fun.

A quirky, dysfunctional family's road trip is upended when they find themselves in the middle of the robot apocalypse and suddenly become humanity's unlikeliest last hope.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Ewoks: Caravan of Courage. 1984. 6/10.

Watchable if you like Ewoks and can tolerate the human acting after the first 15 minutes of it. I like Ewoks more after this movie.

Ewoks: Battle for Endor. 1985. 5/10.

Barely even watchable. Childish fairytale movie that is way too serious for kids at the same time. Odd pace.

Both are live action.

Regrettably I missed the review here on page 311.

So after a long introduction with ever more irritating misogyny, and arguments that just go on.
What were scriptwriters up to ? Feel sorry for the actors.
You you get 'some' action and pace towards the end, though its increasingly inane plot, well...
The short cartoon at the start, and the photos of real airwomen in the titles at the end are the best bits.
Watch the trailer and you have seen the movie for free.

RottenTomatoes viewer reviews are generous at 33%.
I cant figure out the glowing praise written by 'professional reviewers' , 78% they are not describing this movie.
Something Rotten in the State of RottenTomatoes ?

Spy movie 'The Angel' on Netflix.

True story of Ashraf Marwan, who was President Nasser's son-in-law and special adviser and confidant to his successor Anwar Sadat - based on the book 'The Angel: The Egyptian Spy Who Saved Israel' by Uri Bar-Joseph.

Maybe 7/10... mainly because I follow Middle East history and politics and this gave a human twist to what occurred. Might try the book too.

The Trial of the Chicago 7 - Always loved Aaron Sorkin's work and this was excellent. I can easily see why there was such Oscar buzz around the film.

Generally known online as OpenMedia, now working for Red Hat APAC as a Technology Evangelist and Portfolio Architect. Still playing with MythTV and digital media on the side.
