Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation
Greyhound - Solid WW2 naval movie about a convoy of American and British ships being attacked by German u-boats. Pretty much non-stop action, and quite well done. Minor criticism is that the flash back with Tom Hanks's fiance was completely redundant as it added nothing to his character or the story. 7.5/10
Watched Fail Safe last night. Thats the Henry Fonda Version. One of my Favs I think. Knock a point off for no cooperation from the USAF as it didn't like to portray such a thing happening.

Bad Times at the El Royale
Great cast all on top form. Very Tarantinoesque.
It's genres are listed as Mystery & Thriller, Crime, Drama - but I'd definitely throw in black comedy, this is not a film intended to be taken seriously.
8/10
The Dry - AU produced with Eric Bana. Good little mystery/thriller type, about an AFP agent returning to his hometown after a childhood friend is murdered.
7/10
The Marksman - typical Liam Neeson fare, drags a bit but is watchable.
6/10
Gavin / xpd / FastRaccoon / Geek of Coastguard New Zealand
The Wind Rises 8/10 Netflix. another great Japanese animation from famed director Hayao Miyazaki
A look at the life of Jiro Horikoshi, the man who designed Japanese fighter planes (Zero) during World War II.
Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
R.I.P.D. on Netflix... Which was fun - and found out it's eight years old and never heard of it before. Give it a 6/10 although they could've had more scenes with the "alternate" characters.
Also have recently re-watched No Way Out and it's still a good movie with a good twist so a 7.5/10.
And went back to The Bourne Identity - made back in 2002... Whoa. Still a good story (it is a bit different from the book though) so give it a 7.5/10

King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword - 7/10 - Love me a Guy Ritchie movie
Heat - 8/10 - I get the hype now, and didn't feel slow at all, even at the 3hr runtime
Ford v Ferrari - 7.5/10 - Really enjoyed, good pacing

This is a bit of a family favourite, as it's a "take the brain out and enjoy" kind of movie.
It got heavily criticised at the time of its release as it was seen as a "ghost" version of Men in Black...which it clearly is. I don't think that takes anything away from it.

I watched 12 Strong on Netflix NZ this week. Apparently based on a true story.
Felt a bit "Hoorah" for me, but it was enjoyable for what it was. Well shot, well acted, good cast, formulaic "America saves the free world" story. 5/10.

Nomadland, out on Neon etc.
Kinda like a mix of slooow Scandi movie style, and a Japanese 'Slice of Life'.
Living the 'American Dream' in a old van on what you can earn on the way at Amazon , parks and small businesses in-between.
Almost like a one woman stage show, but with characters that move in and out, along with scenery of 5 states.
An odd duck for Oscar best picture win, but its been an odd year, and it picked up Baftas, and Golden Globe awards too.
Even odder as it skirts harsher realities of life on lower rungs in America, that CCP should veto its release in China.
See USA not so great!
Apparently the director Chloé Zhao is persona non grata for CCP, having made comments re childhood upbringing, some years ago.

Its a style of movie that is definitely not for everyone.
I watched Love and Monsters on Netflix.
I enjoyed it.
It's a fairly lighthearted view of what earth would be like if all bugs and wildlife were suddenly "monsterised".
The main character leaves the protection of his bunker for the sake of love and heads to his former girlfriend's bunker (some 80 monster-infested miles away).
Supporting actors are very good and I actually really enjoyed it. 7/10

scuwp: Nobody 8/10
This is often compared to John Wick, and I can see why, but more like Mr and Mrs Smith to me. Loved every second of it. Great action romp, realistic fight scenes, and doesn't take itself to seriously, which is a point of difference to the Wick series. Not for the squeemish. Definitely on my watch again list.
This was great. I think Bob Odenkirk made it, seemed as if he was going to typecast as a Saul Goodman, then... ka-pow.
I normally avoid movies of this genre - glad I didn't with this.
(My SO did complain at first about the violence, then I reminded her that she enjoys A Handmaids Tale which seems to me to be unrelenting brutality interspersed with misery and interminable brooding hopelessness. After mentioning that, she got over it and enjoyed it too).

I watch Handmaid’s Tale and I do find it hard to watch!
I’m going to have a look at Nobody, thanks for the recommendation.
Also watched Nobody and really enjoyed it. Thanks for the recommendation here.
