Handsomedan:

I found it odd this morning not having the three breakfast show on.
Tried the TV 1 breakfast show - absolutely hated it. Don't like the presenters or the style in which it's done.
Feels like it's aimed at a generic 70+ demographic.

I was the same. Can't stand TVNZ breakfast, though I did like TVNZ midday. It has buggered up my morning routines.

Think I will try streaming radio but will really miss three breakfast. The cooking show was way better than TVNZ!

A self-congratulatory article. Let's see how the numbers stack up next weekend - I suspect most were watching just out of interest and curiosity. Sorry to be a pessimist but you don't turn around overnight with a new set and a new name.

Likewise tonight's ratings will be a winner too. Again, wait a week and see how the numbers stack up.

"a whopping 89% more than Newshub’s Saturday night outing a week prior "

Which was the 3 day Matariki weekend, so lots of people were likely out/away....

(how about you show us the rest of the Audience data of other shows that weekend to compare )

...WBD ending linear broadcasting in NZ.

They may not be far behind: https://www.1news.co.nz/2024/07/08/internet-only-sunset-for-broadcast-tv-on-cards-but-timing-unclear/

Personally I know a fair few people who don't stream a thing and still watch stuff using an aerial. People with poor/no broadband may find making a change like this quite difficult, as pointed out in this story.

It'll be like the old copper telephone network. Plenty of people will want to keep using the legacy technology, but there won't be enough of them for it to be commercially viable.

Just like the ATA for old landline phones, someone will start producing Internet TV adapters for people who want to watch linear broadcast TV. The box can record and hold selected streams, mix and match them, and play them back at predetermined times, just like the good old days!

Nope. Not just a weekend thing. They reaaaallly love easily obtainable drone shots.

Wonder if stuff reporter/ photographers have suddenly been told to use more video functions and follow a 'reporter'

Oblivian: Can certainly see there isn't as big a team behind it.
Greenscreen vs actual big clever LED panel. Almost single camera with a lot less cuts.

Looked like at least 2 cameras, probably three. I believe I read in recent reporting that they will be in the Three studios to begin with.

With a low power analog RF modulator & amplifier so you can get the full 1970s experience of having someone stand next to the TV holding the rabbit ears just so to get a wobbly snow effect where if you squint you can just about make out that it's probably a picture of two people sitting at some sort of desk.

My attempts at sending as RF have been ruined by these annoying things like cellular networks and freeview channels hogging all the spectrum.

is a possible solution and just replace the cartoons with random news clips and I am sure that many people that veg out on the news would be no wiser to be seeing many year old segments again and again.

Fundamentally we are all to blame for the demise of journalism, given the choice between paying for news and getting it free, its obvious what most people opt for.  Paying for journalism through advertising (clicks) requires a large readership base which NZ demographically doesn't support.  NZ has always been caught between not wanting but needing a larger population to support the advertising/infrastructure model.

Not sure what the solution is, journalism will always be a loss leader here, some form of subsidy from a pay-for-service its bundled with?

Just a correction. Not all adverts are pay-per-click (PPC), with a good number being cost per thousand (CPM), which are paid for by just being shown.

People have the idea only clicks pay, so they justify ad blocking by saying "I will never click anyway" when in fact just showing an ad generates revenue in most cases.

I think the majority are PPC rather than CPM, irrespective its still a volume game, it still eyeballs.  Either you're making a tiny amount from everyone, or a larger amount from some percentage of everyone, you still need a lot of visits!

The main Newshub studio is being dismantled, so the Stuff production is being produced in a smaller studio at Flower Street. They will move into a dedicated facility later this year.

I've always thought it comes across as a bit entitled when people complain about the quality of a service that they're getting for free.

$290 a year for a Newsroom Pro subscription seems expensive until you think about how much you would have paid, in inflation adjusted terms, for a newspaper subscription 20 years ago. Expectations have become increasingly unrealistic since then.
