I'm about halfway through Army of the Dead on Netflix NZ.

So far it's quite good. Zombies, blood bags, mayhem and light comedic moments interspersed with drama.

Typical Dave Bautista stuff, with Zack Snyder amounts of gore. thoroughly enjoyable. I'm looking forward to finishing it on my commute home tonight.

Army of the Dead - 3/10 - A butchering of what could have been an awesome plot. Ridden with plot holes and a story that goes no where.

The Meg - 4/10 - Unintentionally funny. Can't believe a sequel is being produced

Tom Clancy's Without Remorse

6 / 10 . I haven't read the book  so can't vouch for how accurate it is.   Watched it on Amazon Prime Video.  Interesting that this is an Amazon original movie  but it's not on  Amazon NZ  movies.

The Revenant 7.5/10 DVD

Watched this for the second time and it's still pretty powerful in portraying life in early USA for men hunting in the back end of nowhere.

Di Caprio deserved his Oscar just for filming in such harsh conditions. If he was actually there it must have been nightmarish.

Scenery looks magnificent though.

Wrath of Man 7/10 -  Not a typical Guy Ritchie flick but still very enjoyable.

Argo 7.5/10 DVD

Ben Affleck directed and starred in this thriller about the rescue of 6 hostages from the Tehran Embassy siege. Pretty watchable and tense although I don't know why it got the Oscar for best picture. Must have been a lean year.

I think 7 is very generous most of those who watched this with me feel it lacked depth and unless we weren't paying attention too wellwe just didn't know why or how he (Statham) got into the situation he was in at all.  The ending was a let down.  Not just not a typical Guy Ritchie movie but also not really a typical Statham one as well.  5 out of 10 at most from me.

Now a movie I wasn't overly keen on seeing turned into a pleasant surprise.

Cruela starring Emma Stone and Emma Watson.  The film was just over 2hrs long but didn't seem too drag. There was a good mix of characters and they managed to make the title character quite likeable despite being one of Disneys oldest villians. The rest of the characters seemed well cast, the visuals were good but the soundtrack was spot on (imo obviously) and it would fit nicely into your home collection of favourite film soudtracks.....8 out of 10.  Overall a good movie to watch with the whole family (as did I due to my girl  turning 7 who initially was very annoyed at being forced to watch this instead of youtube ended up liking it lots)....did I mention we all enjoyed the soundtrack.

Same.

Bit dumb, but generally pretty fun. Jason Statham as always carries a lot of the movie on his shoulders.

A Quiet Place Part II; 8/10.

Worthy sequel to an excellent film.  Some minor (or major, depending on your mindset) plot holes, which is why the score isn't higher.

Get Carter (1971) 8/10 DVD - this is a great period British mobster movie. Michael Caine plays his usual laconic roll as a London mobster who goes to Newcastle to investigate his non-criminal brothers death. Thoroughly enjoyable.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

+1. Think I've seen it four or five times already, due for another viewing soon.

Do not confuse this classic with the abysmal 2000 remake.

The Weight Of Water 7/10 DVD

Directed by Kathryn Bigelow (Point Break, K19 - The Widowmaker, The Hurt locker) it's a moody drama which switches between a double murder in the 1800's in a remote settlement and 2 couples on a boating trip with one of them investigating the murders.

Worth a watch even with Sean Penn at his irritating best. Elizabeth Hurley provides the eye candy.

Don't Breathe 8/10 DVD

Thriller with 3 low lives breaking in to the house of a blind ex Vietnam vet to steal insurance money. Needless to say they get more than they bargained for but the atmosphere is good and many tense moments.

Vanishing Point DVD 8/10

Cult 1971 car chase movie with Barry Newman as the loner standing up to authority driving the real star of the film, a Dodge Challenger 440 R/T, across the wide open expanses of the mid-west.

Forget Fast and Furious - this is the real deal.
