Heat (1995)... Good story, interesting backgrounds - 8/10. Great stuff, except Al Pacino who was acting like... Al Pacino.
Decided to watch it because of the good IMDB score and it uses the same house used in the Bosch TV series (mentioned in the TV series thread).

Watched it last night. Was ok. Had a big budget end of the world type feel to it but didn't quiet deliver IMO.
A lot of well used tropes, reasonably good action scenes, but some massive (and I mean massive) plot holes. Usually I can put my brain on park for a couple of hours but not this time.
The sound was really inconsistent though - had to turn up for the dialogue and down again for the action. Is this a trend? Had trouble with the voices in Tenet (but that wasn't a volume issue). Maybe my ears aren't what they use to be.
Still - there are worse ways to spend a couple of hours so if you're into these movies I'd say go for it.
I noticed the sound as well , i was forever adjusting the volume between the action and talking until i just turned the sub titles on .
i gave it a 6/ 10 because, like you , the massive plot holes just couldnt be overcome
Common sense is not as common as you think.

I enjoyed it, but also found the sound levels to be annoying.
Action sequences were loud (as you'd expect, but dialogue was muted and annoyingly quiet. Had the soundbar set to speech as well, which normally brings dialogue to the front.
Overall, I enjoyed it. I was expecting the tried and true and got it.

Had a Lord of The Rings marathon this weekend.
All Three Movies ; extended editions.
The effects etc are still very impressive - despite now being 20 years old, given how much the technology has improved. Some of the scenes with Merry & Pippin sitting in Treebeard look very geeen-screen; but apart from that - pretty good, actually.
The films DO drag on a bit, however...

Those scenes were so green-screeny on the big Embassy screen when I watched the film on opening weekend that I assumed they were a bit of last-minute not-quite-finished fx work at the time. I had thought they would be fixed in later prints and definitely before committing them to disc - apparently not :)
Army of the Dead (Netflix) - 6/10
Watched this on Saturday when I finally found nearly three hours to string together to watch a movie. It was ok, but nothing really to set it apart in the genre of zombie movies (apart from being nearly three hours long!)
The action was ok, the plot was ok, the dialogue - meh. I was distracted by the knowledge that Tig Notaro's character was added in after all the other scenes were already filmed, which meant I was constantly noticing how those scenes were shot and edited to hide that fact.
Film is clearly set up for a sequel. I just hope someone manages to tie Zack Snyder's hands and gag him so they can edit it down to a reasonable length.
Nearly three hours long! Three! For a Netflix zombie film!
/smh

I agree totally - the film was too long for a zombie flick and I had exactly the same problem with Tig Notaro knowing what I knew beforehand, although I admit it was well done.
The sound thing drives me nuts too. I watched The Tomorrow War last night and the volume was terrible. I went diving into my TV's sound menu hoping to find something to adjust the dynamic range but to no avail.
The film was ok, I do tire of a seemingly unending enemy swarming over the horizon type films though.

ugh, same! Volume up for dialogue, hard press down all other times. Pretty forgettable movie.

I didn't know about the replacement of the original actor until now...that shows what a great job they did of splicing Tig into the existing scenes. Incredible, actually.

At least you could put in your own intermission or two :-)

Are you using a surround sound setup? If not, multiple channels of audio don't squeeze into two channels very well, so the system might try to normalise all channels into a single stereo feed, which can make the volume an issue. Happened to my in-laws all the time, they'd complain about not being able to hear stuff on their older soundbar that I could hear fine via my surround setup.
