If VDSL meets your current needs then probably no need to change right now. Chances are though that as delivery improves on upcoming internet services and you require more bandwidth you may want more.

Your VDSL stays on till the Fibre is connected, doesn't seem like much downside. The hassle of shared driveways is just a process, understanding and providing your part in a timely fashion whilst continuing business as usual in the meantime, probably isn't a big deal.

Further to the decent internet and pricing here - Mobile data - I'm travelling to France in May, and the best 'deal' for a Sim and data I can get seems to be the Orange Holiday Travel Sim for 40 Euros - 10GB data valid for only 14 days, on top of which I will need to buy a top up as we are there for 25 days. Here, Skinny will do the same amount of Data for 28 days for $46 (plus maybe $4? for a Sim).

If you're renting then there's probably no point going through the shared driveway process when you'll just end up having to move and go through it again. I tried and it took almost a year to get to a connection date and then 2 days before it the landlord gave us notice to move so cancelled it as it wasn't worth changing when I didn't know what would be available at the next place I moved to.

Thankfully fibre was already installed at the next place so was only a matter of calling my provider to switch from ADSL. If you own your place then it's probably worthwhile for you to get fibre installed.

Quite right, well at least for some people. We are still stuck with our "prehistoric 70Mbps" till end 2019 (LOL).
Had to have a quiet smile to myself talking to a lady who got Gigabit internet through a provider and then complained her general internet browsing wasn't any faster than it was when she had VDSL. She wasn't too happy when I told her that content not filling her bandwidth at VDSL speeds wasn't going to be faster with a faster connection.

We're stuck with the VDSL (speed below) and won't see fibre for another 8 years....I'd actually get better upload using my 4G phone as a modem!

Edit - actually, checking the past 6 months of tests, our upload has fallen to around 1.5

That the Christchurch City Council can be so inept as to put a Bus Stop on Yellow Lines on a Cycle Way!

(Opposite 111 Hansons Lane, Christchurch if you want to look in Google Street View)

That's around the max download speed that I can get. Slightly too far for VDSL to sync, in the shadow of a hill so no 4G, and about 600m too far down the road to ever get fibre.

Enjoy your 1.5 up, I'd be chuffed with that...

Up there with identical packs of cheese at $11/kg or $8 per half kilo...

What really annoys me is people not putting a zero placeholder in front of a decimal point for values of <1.

Amen to that. I have been experiencing the typical speeds in urban Sydney. I will never complain about my 4G again.
