Decent customer service. Better than decent even. Certainly way better than the usual.

Dyson vacuum bought last November from NL has been playing up a bit.

The vacuum head just doesnt seem to work as well as it used to. It's not broken, just isnt quite right.

Wasnt sure if I could even get a new head, so yesterday morning went online to Dyson chat, coz you know, NL are the worst.

The nice person there agreed it wasnt working the best (they watched it working via my phone, so clever) and agreed to send me another head.

The accompanying emails suggested it would arrive about the 25th, I was ok with that.

And this afternoon it turned up!

I'm still smiling.

That would probably also qualify for the dumbest-media-stuff thread:

McDonald’s stores across New Zealand, Australia and Japan have been impacted by a computer outage on Friday night.

The outage is preventing the fast food chain from being able to take orders.

An employee Stuff spoke to says they do not know how long it will take to fix.

McDonald’s is experiencing a mass computer outage on Friday night that is affecting stores across New Zealand, Australia and Japan.

The outage is affecting the fast food chain’s ability to take orders.

Stuff spoke to an employee at Grey Lynn McDonald’s in Auckland who said the outage was being addressed.

They added that they did not know how long it would take to fix.

So the bullet points just repeat what the story says right below them.

McDonald's has a single system to manage orders in NZ, Australia & Japan?
One that apparently doesn't have a backup instance in even one of the other countries?
And where two of the three countries are seismically highly active and more exposed to outages?

On the famous "Good, quick, cheap: choose any two" formula, one can assume they went for quick & cheap.

Smells like Head Office are more interested in tracking how much business the franchisees are doing to get their % than reliability.

But did they cut to a live reporter outside a mcdonalds and show pictures of unhappy people not able to get their food while it was repeated again by a person standing outside who tells you that inside noone can order their food, and then cut to some old stock footage of a burger being prepared while a voice over person tells you how impressive sales figures are at mcdonalds, and other facts pulled from wikipedia about mcdonalds? Because that is what the dying TV news would do.

A game we play when travelling is guess the battery regeneration. If we are at the top of say the Remutaka Hill road or Transmission Gully summit we guess what we think the battery in a PHEV will regen by the time we reach the bottom. Currently my wife is winning.

@Eva888 yep definitely played I spy with the kids but as they grew older that was replaced with car cricket which my wife and I still play. Car cricket becomes amusingly difficult when I am required add up complex number like 1+1 or 4+4, forget 6+6 under the influence of powerful pain relief. This probably adds to the enjoyment especially for my wife

Bought a new PC from Amazon on Sunday around lunchtime. It's at the airport and flying out and likely will be with me tomorrow or latest, Wednesday. Precleared customs.

Another game on a zigzag hill like the Remutaka Hill is to try and use the regen to accelerate on the straights, so that you get to the bottom with the same battery level as you had at the top.

Or you could play your version, and guess 0, then drive like my version. 😎

Over 20 years ago I got a multifuel cooker like this for motorbike trips. MSR is an American brand and it's normally pretty good kit.

I took the cooker away this summer and the cooker packed a sad and wouldn't pressurize (remember, it is an American cooker).

Not only are there good disassembly videos online but also reasonably priced spare parts. Turns out I needed a rubber bung type thing which I was able to get for $3 !!

I wish all manufacturers provide could such long term support.

MSR make a fantastic rebuild kit for thier cookers and pumps - comes in a little plastic container about the size of a bicycle puncture repair kit and has every o-ring and seal required to repair the cookers, as well as lubricant and the tools required to do the repairs. I keep one in the bag with the cooker, just in case.

Totally agree that other manufacturers should be taking heed of this, and I am happy to pay the slightly higher premium for MSR gear to get this level of ongoing support.
