After this discussion on quiet kettles back in Dec we have just bought the Russell Hobbs ‘Montana’ whisper kettle discussed in that thread.
It’s hugely quieter than our rowdy old RH - will interesting to see whether it loses its quietness, as some posters mentioned there.

That may be more because it's new than the kettle design. All kettles build up limescale over time and so get louder when boiling. To deal with this you either need to regularly descale it, or get something like a Zojirushi water heater which only boils when you refill it, and even then is so heavily insulated that it's much quieter than a kettle, as well as being more energy-efficient above a certain usage level.

Yes - that’s what I was referring to, without wishing to recap the earlier thread.
However we have pretty soft water here so not expecting a problem in the short to med term. Also the new one does seem to use newer tech than our old one.

How long does it take to fill a full kettle of cold water if it was convenient to find out?

you should be able to work that out with any water temp calculator
https://www.omnicalculator.com/physics/water-heating
1.7L of water from 10 degrees to 100 degrees at the rated 2.4kW of the kettle will take about 4m40s

TIL I learned about Water Temp Calculators! Thanks. Apparently my kettle isn't as broken as I thought taking nearly 4 minutes to boil! Thanks.

From our kitchen mixer-tap it takes about 10 secs to fill with cold water.

Doh. I don't know how I typed that. I wanted to know how long it takes to boil ;)
Ah I remember, I was half asleep, no coffee yet as my kettle is STILL getting to boiling temp!

Eva888: Blow me down if next morning it was 100%. Am now putting it on a charger regardless that not charging is showing, and it’s working.
Just be careful when old LiIon batteries start showing odd behaviour. In particular if a 5000mAh battery goes from 0 to 100% charge in ten minutes, or takes 15,000mAh of charge, dispose of it carefully but quickly. Also check whether the case is bulging outwards, in which case definitely dispose of it quickly.
A 25-year-old Muscat dessert or sweet wine that I once brought back from Toulouse and found "buried" in the cellar at the back of the shelf. I was about to throw it away when I was told that an older bottle of Muscat from 1969 was worth a good €350. Now I just have to cook the right dish to go with it and invite our friends over to uncork it (as a sweet dessert wine, it will certainly be enough for everyone). 😁

Tomorrow will be exciting. We have to hack a self-employed private individual who is dissatisfied with his IT consultant. If we succeed, we'll have a new customer. This time we'll do it physically on site. 😉

I'm curious to see if it can keep up with the RI (real intelligence) of my hunting dog "Skipper". 😉
