We were recently on holiday in Sri Lanka while they were in season. Just delicious.

Yeah, down this end of the world they are pretty rare, but up near there, even in some parts of Australia they are relatively common.

I recall when I was in Spain walking down a street and seeing a bag of fist sized figs for $2 euro. Here they were $5 each. Figs, Parma Ham, some Spanish cheese and fresh bread, sitting in a park in the sunshine. One of my most memorable lunches ever.

Just have a look at YT videos where college students can't answer general knowledge questions. Simple things like 'name one other country apart from America <sic> ' . No, 'Africa' is not a correct answer.

Most of the posters in this thread are just like chimpanzees on MDMA, full of feelings of bonhomie, joy, and optimism. Fred99 8/4/21

If you asked random people in, for example, India or China (large population bases) similar general knowledge geography questions, I feel like they'd be better able to correctly answer them.

Note, this is purely based on nothing scientific, just how it appears.

That's the feeling I get too. Other countries just aren't as amazingly exceptional , leaders in every field known to humanity as the USA. See the YT videos made by Americans who never consider the rest of the world uses the correct system of measurements, have seasons at different times of the year or also play the same sport (but never feature in the 'world' series).

I know not all Americans are like this, I have been there for work and met some intelligent people.

Has anyone ever tried to assign an economic value to bullshit? I know people, one in particular, who are all the way down the rabbit warren and devote enormous time and resources to 'studying' and spreading the bullshit they swim through there. Like religion, this is an economic activity that involves organisation, expenditure, and targeted proselytising. It is a product, for which there is a market. This also generates all kinds of related economic activity. Even demonstrators need to eat and those who feed and encourage them profit from their protests.

So what is the value of bullshit? Would the world economy collapse if YouTubers suddenly stopped paying attention to the bullshitters? Lies and fantasies generate income and that income gets spent on other things. Bullshit has value. The only question is how much.

Have a look at YT videos with the search term "Chaser in the streets of America". One example is:

There's one where they show people a world map with Australia labelled "North Korea" and Tasmania "South Korea" and ask them which one the US should bomb. "Gee, I never realised North Korea was so much bigger than South Korea".

That I was finally able to teach the one NUC with embedded AMD graphics Proxmox and pass it through. Now it becomes a nice little 4C/8T „numbercrunching“ server with external 10Gb DAC or SFP+. 😀
