Yes. You will never be able to stop a determined kid from finding a way to access content. You can make it hard, some kids will give up, but you are better to deal with this as a parenting problem not a technology problem and explain why it's important they don't access that content. Start with the 'why'

Indeed. I recall some boys on the bus passing around pages ripped from a dodgy magazine... no technological solution would stop that.

Facebook groups... kinda.

They're great for sharing info, but of course wherever you have people you'll always have the potential for things going south and.. they sometimes do! But I like the community groups, and the hobbies / interest groups. And some people are really helpful in answering questions. (I dislike it when people don't use google first though).

I'm a moderator on another forum, and every now and then a forum member will break multiple rules and get a stern telling-off. Occasionally the rulebreaker will then figuratively stomp around in a huff and declare that they're done with the forum. We don't allow members to delete their own posts, but sometimes the rulebreaker will painstakingly go back through hundreds of posts and manually edit them to "Deleted" or "." or similar. This process would likely take an hour or more.

What part of this makes me smile? When I click the "revert vandalism" button.

I don't even have to go finding posts to "revert vandalism".

We have very few occurrences like this - can count a handful a year. But then our posts lock themselves after a few minutes.

Nothing major :-)  just a few games I think are complete dross and I hate so much I want to ruin their fun, but for whatever reason the kids like it and sneaky play it after lights out.

I have equipped 4 dev servers with an open source KVM multiplexer. Now we have full (encrypted and properly secured) remote access without IPMI crap or expensive licensing - both from the admin PC on the office desk or from anywhere in the world. You can even fully control, install and run several different operating system ISOs remotely at any time. Time to work from the beach. 😊

Today the NVR's AI has finally accepted our dog ‘Skipper’ as a member of the family. 🤣

Not "smile" per se (almost the opposite!), but credit where it's due.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree (game). Never, ever have I found a (presumably optional) location in a game that gives such a feeling of "you really shouldn't be here" as this one has. It starts with a sign saying no more than "turn back, while you are yet able" and then becomes more and more oppressive from there. If this were a real place then I wouldn't have dared take a single step... and the only reason I proceeded in the first place was with the knowledge that it's a game and there must be something really good at the end!

So, credit to the developers for doing such a good job with it.

I assume it's this bit?  Probably taken out of context since it's just a brief clip but it doesn't seem that much more exotic than many other game monster encounters.

It's not the monster itself, but the overall feeling of "you don't want to be here". You can't tell from that brief clip but the area is huge, visibility is poor, and you need to do it all on foot (you get a "horse is too frightened" message if you try to mount).

I'm sure "real" horror games do a great job, but it's not the sort of thing I expect to find in what's predominantly an action RPG.

The water pressure in my house. After 10 days in Australia with below average water pressure, it was nice to be home.

Last week I was invited to present something to a meeting of regional/global bigwigs, late on Friday evening of course. But rather than share the Teams link, they just had me wait online and pulled me in to the meeting for my 10 minute spiel, then I left.

However on Monday morning I discovered that since I was in the meeting for a period of time, I was automatically added to the associated chat group, meaning I received the meeting minutes from Copilot for the full two hour meeting, and over the weekend was bombarded with messages from bigwigs discussing the hiring for a role several levels above my own.

Makes me smile knowing that even the biggest of bigwigs in the technology industry are prone to security lapses... they are human after all.
