Finally, on day 59, "with courier for delivery" (note that this comes after "handed over for delivery"). It should turn up in the next wee while.

Just want to share my experience on ordering from AliExpress in the last 6 months. I probably ordered something like 10 items from AliExpress in the last 6 months. All of them are < $60 inclusive of shipping. I still do not have confidence yet on buying higher value items from AliExpress.

Lessons learned and moral of the story:

  1. The site can be a life saver as I have managed to get parts which you simply can't find locally - a kneading blade for my old Panasonic Breadmaker and replacement ear pad cover for a Plantronic Headset. Without those parts, largely functioning items will have to go the rubbish dump. Therefore, this actually cut down waste.
  2. You cannot trust the product photo as look can be deceiving. Bought some oven silicone glove that I can no longer find locally. The glove that I received was quite a bit smaller than when I got from local shop previously. Still functional but smaller.
  3. Be prepare to wait for a long time for items to arrive. I use standard shipping which are low costs or free. Average wait time for 10 diffrent shipped items is about 2 months. One item has an excellent delivery time of 10 days to arrive but NZPost delivered it to the wrong address (useless local courier driver) and it was lost for 3 days. One item took 2.5 months to arrive.
  4. Tracking is a bit disingenuous. It shows Air Transport but I suspect short haul is by Air but the long haul is by ship otherwise it would not take 2 months to arrive. having said that, the postage is lower than sending something from Auckland to Wellington to put things in perspective
  5. Quality vs Price. Don't expect super quality for the price. As long as you have the right expectation of price vs quality, it can be a good buy.

eparcel arrived in nz. Didn't take 2 months to cross the ocean, but almost 2 weeks on a plane, seems very weird...

Looking like it will be at my door step this week. That's about 5 weeks faster than standard shipping

I have ordered quite a bit of stuff this year. AliExpress standard shipping has been a lot slower than in the past and has typically taken around 2 months. The few things that I have been sent via ChinaPost registered airmail have been much faster (around 3 weeks, though I don't have a lot of data points).

I have also ordered a bit of stuff from banggood.com and that has been very reliable, and has been consistently under 3 weeks (the slowest time of the 6 things I've ordered this year was 18 days). This has all been NZ direct mail which is handed over to NZ Post in Auckland, but it seems to clear through quickly. It seems to be a similar process to ali express standard shipping, but the method of getting to Auckland is much faster, and it doesn't seem to hang around in Auckland for as long either.

Today found package in my mailbox that I ordered back in October. It was sent with Cainiao/Sunyou and had SY tracking number on it with Emarati post label.

8 months, WOW!

My understanding of AliExpress shipping is that the reason they can keep shipping cost very low is they ship in bulk using a big container either for air transport or for a ship. Once the container arrived in the country, it can easily take another week to sort through all the items and pass it to the last mile courier. That is the reason why 10 days is pretty much the fastest time you can expect if you choose AliExpress standard shipping. It also explains why you see 10 days in transit tracking even if it has gone by air transport. The norm now seems to be more like 2 months, sigh ....

So this epacket speed might have been a fluke?

I was thinking they did this with standard shipping. Probably keeping the eye on the oldest package delivery date. So they ship it when the container is full, or the oldest package is 1 month away from being refunded

One of mine also arrived this week, from October.

Must have been stuck in the same container.

Another one here from October, also with an SY tracking number and an Emirates postal label.

I'd actually forgotten I'd ordered the damn thing and I've bought another one since then! Ah well, it's a fairly low value item fortunately.

Not Aliexpress but Amazon: Ordered Saturday, shipped Sunday, delivered Thursday. That's pretty damn impressive, even pre-Covid it'd take far longer than that.
