My youngest son, one day after he turned 18, went out to the supermarket and returned with one can of beer.

He said he was "exercising my legal right to buy alcohol".

I don't think he has any intention of drinking it...

Slug traps?

Very effective too, drunk slugs are more likely to wrap themselves around power poles and remove themselves from the gene pool.

MadEngineer: Google need to do something about that - surely they can review websites that are hosting their adverts and go actually this site is polluted with advertising, lets disable some until resolved so as to save viewer pushback.

Google are the ones paying the site to put the ad's there and charge an advertiser for it. It is in Googles interest to only link to sites with lots of ad's that they provide. Something about this has made people in Europe a little upset at Google and something something monopoly something break up.

Who the heck has the required hundreds of billions lying around to buy that behemoth?

Kids having a great time at Halloween. I’m not the biggest fan of most of the Americanised holidays but this is one that isn’t particularly commercial and is just about kids having a nice time in their community.

It's not a holiday, but some people are slowly adopting the party side of it. And it's commercial. Some people make big efforts to dress up or to dress up their houses, even in New Zealand.

From a couple of retailers I have adjacency to, Haloween is a pretty big period of sales in their calendars.

Some people use it as a way to drink lots of boos

I'll see myself out :)

My co-worker, who is incredibly excited that halloween is over, so she can start on making her house a Christmas-themed wonderland.
She doesn't do halloween, but waits until the halloween stuff is over, so she can go full-noise.

Thankfully not our street, but one adjacent to ours is a renowned hotspot for Haloween celebrations and trick or treating. I completely forgot on my way home from work yesterday and found myself smack bang in the epicentre of it. It took me ~11 minutes to drive the 600m length of the street. Did I care? not at all. I reckon there were about 800 people on that street at 6:15pm when I came through. Mostly excited pre-teens all dressed up having a great time, but also a lot of parents making sure their childer remained respectful while enjoying themselves. It was awesome to be stuck in the middle of it.

I kind of wish Haloween was more of a thing when I was young, I would have had a ball out there with my friends.

The nav in the car was showing a lot of red lines on roads that are never busy and took me home a weird way last night because of that.

Seems that they are all out candy-begging too early because they were all leaving when I got home at about 6:30.

Gambling.

What a wonderful pastime!

My colleague is in a syndicate that owns of a race horse and so I opened a TAB account, deposited a small sum, got some "bonus cash" (Who knew that was a thing?) and won a few hundred bucks!

Of course, I have no impulse control, so I immediately cashed out and closed my TAB account. Slippery slope and all that.

I've never been a gambler. The only time I've ever put a bet on was when I was 19. Took my girlfriend out for a fancy dinner down at Jupiter's Casino on the Gold Coast. Cost $100 which was a lot of money for a 19yr old Uni student back in the 90's. We walked through the Casino before sitting down at a $10 Blackjack table. I won 10 consecutive hands, all pure luck as I had no idea what i was doing. Cashed out, enjoyed our free dinner and never put another bet on in my life since then, not even a lotto ticket.

I can understand and sympathise how people get addicted to it.

When someone tries to pull one over on you in a car accident and claims you hit them... But you got it all on CCTV and them making a false claim with their insurer :)

BOY was I unhappy for the 1 hour it took me to prove them wrong, but ungodly levels of happy smug (I'll call it what it is) getting the call from my insurance saying the other party 'changed their statement and have taken full liability' :)

The formal notation for this is "C|N>K", caffeine piped through nose onto keyboard.

I have at least turned auto updates off. I like to review the change notes before clicking on install updates. It should be mandatory for app developers to provide meaningful change notes. Nothing worse than clicking on the details to see a generic statement "bug fixes and performance improvements".
