When visitors are coming and any women in the house go into crazy, mental cleaning and tidying mode.

Dude don't complain. You could end up having to do it yourself.

I'd invite visitors to the house every week!

I empathise. I find that kind of manic, anxiety motivated cleaning a little cra-cra. I've had partners and flatmates who did it. Often unsettling to be around.

I've never found myself assessing the cleanliness of others' houses when visiting. I'm there to enjoy their company not to get the white glove out and start judging.

Our local shop (for local people...nothing for you here..) is going plastic bag free in a fit of virtue signalling.

Meanwhile, all the products they sell continue to be packed in a good deal of plastic...far more than the bags contain, I suspect.

What annoys me is the sudden obsession with getting rid of "single use" plastic bags (which are rarely, IME, used only once but that is by the by) yet no similar obsession with removing plastic from food packing where feasible. An example of this is Weetbix. The UK equivalent, Weetabix, has the biscuits packed in paper wrap and has done since before I was born 50 years ago. Yet Weetbix comes with a plastic bag (surely single use too) in every box. It's clearly proven that packing dried wheat biscuits in paper works, so why not embrace that and make it a positive marketing act?

Just another form of astroturfing. In Samoa, the shops hand out biodegradable plastic bags. I don't get why shops here can't do that. When a tiny island country is able to.

Just shows how miserable the UK would be if it weren't for the Gulf Stream.

I suspect it's the Equivalent N Hemsiphere lattitude range of NZ.

Remembering that the S Hemisphere has more ocean which is thermally stable compared to land.

I'm old enough to remember that Weetbix here used to be packed in paper. Don't recall at what point they switched to plastic bags though.

I'm old enough to remember that Weetbix here used to be packed in paper. Don't recall at what point they switched to plastic bags though.

They must use hundreds of thousands a year between here and Australia. It seems an easy change that would look very positive for the brand. Especially the Organic version..!

I’m currently overseas and literally just a few minutes ago I had Weetabix for breakfast. You’re right about the ‘paper’ packaging inside the box (a box of 36 has 3 x paper packs of 12 each). However if you look closely at the paper wrap, it has a thin film of plastic laminated to its inner face. The individual paper packs are very well sealed and I guess the plastic layer keeps the pack airtight until it’s opened.

So, not so simple to get away from the plastic. I’m not sure that this ‘paper’ packaging is biodegradable.

Sometimes I just sit and think. Other times I just sit.
