After considering all the ideas raised I think I'll still go with the Kindle.
She'll love it and even if she doesn't use it right away while she gets through her hard books she will use it.

Guess I'll be back in Dec for some Xmas ideas now. :)

I went the kindle option this year and it went down a treat. She's really into physical books (often said she wouldn't want a kindle) but really loves it now. Probably reads it more than not. I installed Calibre and put a ship load of ebooks on her laptop and off she went :)

One of the sweeteners apart from the expensive wrapping paper was a custom cover. I got her the one below so it looks like an old book and can slot in the bookcase well. They are very well made by an actual book bindery.

Good move! If you can, get the keyboard version and the lighted cover. If she doesn't read in bed already this combination will get her doing so - its so much easier to read a Kindle in bed as its lighter and easier to hold, and the lighted cover means she can read without the light on and without disturbing you. Great too if she ever has a night sitting beside a fractious child.

Add in an Amazon gift card so she can load up some books to start with.

They are cool. Not the cheapest cases though (close to $70 with mail fee) but they do protect the kindle very well even though they are not padded. They also don't have lights but I just got a separate clip on reading light for it which was pretty cheap. There are a range of covers including ones based on famous novels but I thought it was best to get a "generic" old book cover (unless one of the ones they offer is your wife's favourite book perhaps) The James Bond ones they have at the mo are pretty cool though :)

You can have it customised with her name and they will even wrap it in "antique" gift wrapping paper.

networkn: Speaking of which, I accidentally flew my RC Helicopter into my wife the other day, she was less than impressed, but I smiled and she forgave me. Match made in heaven I tells ya!

My son who is three, and normally very outgoing and who I thought would really enjoy the copter, promptly burst into tears as soon as the blades started going! (Different incident).

Hahahaha, cracked me up.

You sold me on this. I really liked the idea of having my kindle look like a book and out of the options the Klevercases seemed to be the best one out there as it is a real hardbook cover. Now just have to wait for it to arrive Cool

Mine didn't take long and they provided me with a tracking number. It's a tight squeeze getting the kindle mounted but once it's in it's very secure. Did you see the James Bond ones they have? Might have to get myself one of those...
