Wow, Wellington has had it bad ovenight! Feel for you guys down there.

PN has got off lightly, being that we're inland and more sheltered.

Well we lost a tree from the front of the house, big one too - torn right in half!.

Power cable from the road to the house was ripped off and is now dangling over the top of the other cables - soon to end up on the road. Actually I'm not sure what kind of cable it is - but our power and internet still work so I'm not fussed :)

Wheelie bins were blasted through my 6ft gate beside the house. Cat went out to the toilet during the night and then came to our bed with this look on his face like "No-one said this was part of the deal!?"

Snow really starting to fall in Christchurch now. Thick. Some places sending people home.

Parents are in Wellington, lost power last night, still don't have it back.

We are meant to fly up tonight for a mates birthday...some how I think we will be missing it.

In Hamilton it rained a bit, and there was some wind.
That's the downside/upside of living here - we just don't get extreme weather.
Welly gets 140km winds, we gt a stiff breeze.
Chch gets 6 inches of snow, we get a bit of a frost.
Palmy gets waist deep in floods, I don't walk on the lawn as its a bit soggy.
Its nice that I get to keep my roof, and don't have to nail down the cat, but its a bit boring really. :-)

My cat was inside for 16 hours last night, he ventured out at 6:30 am for 30 minutes, guessing he went to the toilet. Im in Wellington.

Our cats were both inside all evening and refused to go out this morning, which is a first for one of them. When power went out one cat took shelter in small cupboard for warmth.

Conclusion: worst storm in our cat's lifetimes.

Analysis of conclusion: incorrect use of apostrophe.

Been without power since 8pm last night - last check was that power still out in our street (Johnsonville).

Checked cats - apparently they are they same ones we had the day prior so no feline-wind-swap events yet.

Made it into work - at least its warm inside. Phone lines in street on the ground, fences blown over, trees denuded of leaves, must be winter...

Some snow would be awesome.

We're in Johnsonville but power remained on even though it looks like people around our street has been in the dark. So we're lucky in that...

And yea verily, power didst returneth at 5:40pm. There was much rejoicing.

Big ups to the crews who have been working tirelessly to restore services and to all the other folks who do emergency management and works.

It's a pity that more of the Wellington electricity network ain't underground, since you fullas often bear the brunt of these storms.

I was amazed to see on the news at 6, some of the concrete sea walls smashed by the power of the sea.

Are you for real, one good earthquake and the elecricky network would be rooted, just look at Christchurch, they replaced most of the nailed underground stuff with above ground due to the cost and effort required to repair...
