Buzz Bumble: All insurance is a scam. The greedy scum always try to wiggle out of it and pay out as little as they can get away with. X-(
It was not AA, but last year I tried to get a few panelbeating repairs done on my car and the insurance wanted to treat it as three separate jobs, three separate claims, make me pay three separate amounts, even though the panelbeatering was only one job. Meaning that despite the fact that I have been paying for full insurance for the last 10 years with no claims ever, they were only going to cover about one-third of the cost.
xlinknz: I just worked out that AA do not do what is called excess refunds
With my existing provider's house and contents policies if the claim is greater than the excess then full payment is made i.e. the customer doesn't pay the excess AA do not offer this
Now I wonder what value I should put on that ? On one hand is is obviously a marketing incentive but on the other hand it is value IF I ever make a claim on house and or contents

gundar: Logged my first claim today.
Called AA, was told that as I did not call the cops at the scene, I would have to pay excess - $500 (usually I don't). I somehow doubt the mob would put up with a white boy standing around calling the cops and it would be easy for any disgruntled mobsters to walk up the street and surmise where my house is.

...Was wondering if I had life insurance with AA if they'd have okayed my hasty retreat...

And this is why NZ needs a Castle Law that applies to public places.
