timmmay: Yesterday I sent a small package of clothes from Chiang Mai to Koh Samui, an island way down south. It cost me $1 for the box and $2.5 for express postage. Postage for eBay items from overseas are airways cheap. Nz post is already super expensive imho and I now use them as rarely as possible.
I wonder if NZ post is getting screwed by these overseas deliveries, because how much out what you paid for delivery, actually goes to NZ post. It doesn't really make sense that once that item arrives in NZ, they could then have to deliver it from Auckland to dunedin, which maybe 5+ dollars if it was sent internally.
What NZ post should turn into is a lower priced parcel delivery service. So less than half the price of what couriers charge.

I think you're right – NZ Post could take a punt on a “branded” lower priced parcel delivery service. Maybe not half price.. but competitive..
In that scenario.. the erosion of Postal “legacy services” would continue, and after a period of cost cutting and change we'd have..
Self serve PostShop Kiosks, co-located in supermarkets, replacing PostShops.
Streetside “Community mail boxes” taking the place of existing Urban mail delivery services.
Rural Delivery reduced to 3 days weekly, contractors encouraged to diversify into courier/direct delivery services.
Winston Peters and Grey power leading a loud but eventually futile protest against the changes.
Over the coming decade, as usage drops, kiosk locations reduced by attrition, leaving only the more profitable “branches”, and a reduction in those underutilised Community Mail boxes.
Finally the remains will be sold to Toll who (while agreeing to continue essential postal services) will absorb the Courier, strip the remaining assets, and abandon the rest as uneconomic..
Aahh Well..
surfisup1000: I detest NZ post.
They just lost an item in the post and say they won't cover it under their insurance due to a technical loophole they are wriggling out of.
Buzz Bumble:
Kyanar: To be honest, this particular individual never seems to post anything except snide remarks about "rich people" and "big business".
Then you obviously haven't read 90% of what I post ... which is your choice, but whiniing about it is plain silly. :-\

Whats the loophole, is it considered a forbidden item or something?
surfisup1000:
Well, i wrote the street address on the postage. But, when it didn't arrive, NZ post said that they do not deliver to that street address because they have a PO Box.
But, I also wrote my return address on the package and NZ post have not returned it.
So, even though NZ post have lost my parcel, they say they have no liability because I used the physical address and having a return address is irrelevant to any compensation claim.
Basically, they lost it, and don't want to give me any compo.

If there is no delivery to the street address then they will typically redirect it to the PO Box. Thats what happens with anything I have sent to works street address because stupid ebay sellers will not send to po boxes. Never had one go missing.
I am sure you could escalate the issue you have with them.

Agreed. Persist with them, it is likely somewhere. How long ago was it?
JimmyH: +1 to that.
File a claim for the value with the Disputes Tribunal. If the only reason was that you wrote a street address when the recipient had a PO Box Number, and you didn't break any terms & conditions, then I suspect it will be a slam dunk. They will likely just pay up rather than defend a (seemingly) shaky position on their part.
