Found this and it reminded me of this thread.

http://www.3news.co.nz/tvshows/campbelllive/careless-driving-charge-for-heart-attack-victim-2015020319

"The ambulance lady said 'no, you can't talk to her, we need to go her straight to Middlemore Hospital – she needs instant attention," says Ms Hodder.

I can't imagine an ambulance worker saying "She needs instant attention".  I see a rather different scenario where the cop gets the back doors slammed shut on him before the ambulance takes off in a hurry.

MikeAqua:
corksta: The NIWA example is from today's NZ Herald where their "science reporter" states that NIWA is short for 'National Institute of Water Atmosphere' (did he just take a stab that that's what it stands for?!)... but of course then goes on to refer to them as Niwa.

In this case the reporter is almost correct. National Institute of Water and Atmosphere is the formal name of the institute, but its brand name is NIWA.

Not to be pedantic, but it's actually 'National Institute of Water and Atmospheric Research'

Not sure why they aren't NIWAR, but there you go. NIWA it is.

gzt: The 64 million dollar question: How much would you be prepared to pay daily for a responsible and reliable locally based news service providing national and international?

International - not much, if anything. There's plenty out their available for free and in a timely manner already.

Local - In principle I would be willing to pay, if it was timely, well written and high quality. How much would depend on how good it was.

Don't worry. Earlier in the week they talked about Air NZ offering WiFi in 2011 on domestic flights (Air NZ did offer voice and GPRS roaming for a short period of time using OnAir)

Stuff never lets facts get in the way of a good story.

I saw on Stuff a while back an article about people born on December 25 sharing a birthday with Jesus Christ.

Perhaps I should have pointed out the obvious to the "reporter"?

flyingdutchdude: Stuff is terrible - can be summed up as tabloid style sensation peppered with grammatical / spelling / factual mistakes. I note there is even a FB group - 'Stuff.co.nz spelling and grammar'.

But yet we keep going back. Can't... Stop... Fairfax.... Power... Too... Powerful.... cool

They must have also influenced advertising companies?

Saw an ad that had giant bold headline that included

No wonder Kiwi's love it.

It was a VW golf ad.

Here's another Stuff stuffup:
http://www.stuff.co.nz/manawatu-standard/news/66380410/Blackley-to-lay-off-16-workers

"Property experts estimate there could be up to 1000 excavators buried under London."

Perhaps the 16 laid off workers can go look for them?

Doesn't show that in the mobile site. Maybe they twinked it out already!

Amazingly... I've found 9Gag to be pretty good for international too...

Jokes aside, I think we need to take everything with a pinch of salt these days when it's "reported" by the media...

It still shows as of this moment on the non-mobile site. A generic picture of an excavator bucket with that stupid blurb about 1000 excavators buried.

Great, so the mobile site might have different drivel than the full site? Even better. Great way to confuse the masses.

Did anyone go to the Foo Fighters last night?

Stuff's review here

http://www.stuff.co.nz/entertainment/music/gig-reviews/66498376/no-earthquake-but-foo-fighters-still-rock

This line confuses me a bit?

"This time round, at Mt Smart Stadium, conditions were similar as the rain poured over the sweaty and the thirsty (rendering those $5 drinks unnecessary, thanks god of rock)."

I didn't see any rain last night at all, the closest thing to rain I got was being sprayed with Dave Grohl's sweat. Unless the rain was localized in a certain area of the stadium?

Egregious click baiting from the Herald:

Lobster 'as big as a human' found in Morocco

a) it is not a lobster
b) it is tens of millions of years old

Interesting article the second time around but it is not a human sized lobster found in Morocco.
