I was giving this some thought over the last couple of days and decided I would love to see Logan's Run, done in a way that made it not just up-to-date, but more like the way that GOTG was done - high production value, plenty of action, lovable characters and a bit of camp humour thrown in.

Hoofhaarted: I thought Peter Jackson was working on a remake of Dambusters, with Stephen Fry  writing the script ?

will it be split into three parts and have lots of extra characters that never appeared in the original?

I heard the biggest stumbling block was trying to find a PC name for Wing Commander Guy Gibson's dog.

Just discretely drop it from the story

They could call the dog buster.

They could call the country they are bombing Middle Earth, too...

History is factual - you can't just change it because society has become wet and weedy about some words.

Or just do it and let anyone pathetic enough to be offended by it rant on Twitter.

It is not pathetic to be offended by what is a disgraceful term.

There are plenty of names that are offensive and disgraceful in the right context, but are still the names of people.  Words are words.  It's how they are used that is offensive.  The dog's name shouldn't need to be changed, it's political correctness gone mad.

I am not saying change the name I am saying don't use the name. If done right it will have no effect on the movie. The name would never be tolerated today it is from a time past.

Yes, and the film is about documenting what happened in a time past. It's important to use true things like that in context, rather than trying to create some faux sanitised version of history with every event or fact that might offend someone, somehow, in some way being edited out of the account and our historical memory. It's a factual film about history, and the facts are what they are - irrespective of whether that's politically convenient.

However, back on topic, I would just like them to do whatever they remake properly, which means decent scriptwriting, plots, actors and drama. It doesn't mean following the current Hollywood formula of having none of that, and compensating by blowing a huge budget on yet more CGI explosions. "Yes, there's no credible script, but the explosions are even bigger and badder than our last film" doesn't quite work as a marketing pitch for me.

Trouble with Dune is that it's just too big and complex to fit into one film.

The Scifi channel remake of it as a mini series a few years back worked quite well, because it was a longer format which let them bring out more of the storyline complexity.

As long as whatever happens, they don't let Peter Jackson remake it. Then it would be a nine hour trilogy - consisting of three hours of actual material/storyline, bulked out by another six hours of endless and pointless action chase scenes.

The Prisoner — I am NOT a number, I am a free man.  We'll I will be if Ii can find my way off this endless beach being chased by big white balloons.  We've got a few beaches they could use for filming right here in NZ.  Patrick McGoohan died in 2009, so they'd need a new man...

There was an Americanized remake a few years back. Although Ian Mckellen was in it too.

It didn't get great reviews.

The real problem with the film (The Dambusters) is it glorifies the murder of over a 1,3000 civilians and the death of over half the air crews for something that achieved no military objective.  It was basically a propaganda stunt.

I believe Weta solved the dog name issue quite easily, and it's only urban legend that it was an issue.  And the present situation in the Ukraine will be only making it harder to make a film about murdering 600 Ukrainians.

I'd quite like to see The Running Man remade. I actually quite enjoy to original (and wish they'd release it on BD), but it could be done quite well as a remake I think.
