I recall that it was reported that he was potentially seriously ill a few years ago, but they dismissed those claims. So it is no surprise to me, as where there is smoke there is often fire. Also the more recent photos of him, he looked ill, you can often just tell that there isn't something quite right. In a way it is good that he kept it private, otherwise the media preys on that sorry of thing, which wouldn't have before any recovery.

I am.

I cried.

Really? Did you know him, then? Mind you, some people cried when Princess Diana died too. It takes all sorts, I guess.

No but I've had a very close relationship with his music since I was a child.
He was my number one guy.
Plus I'm a musician and artist myself... we can be a sensitive bunch sometimes.

Loads of people cried when Jonah Lomu passed away. Takes all sorts I guess ;)

He had a heart attack on the tour I saw him on. Rumor has it that he'd had several more heart attacks since.

Do you have to be so negative?  I'm taking it that your question was sarcastic and rhetorical (although I could be wrong and maybe you really meant it).

Accept that many people (myself included) thought he was great, and provided the soundtracks to our lives.

If thats not the case for you fine.  Go and be somewhere else rather than sitting here feeling irritated

god sometimes I hate the internet - maybe I should take my own advice and go somewhere else....

This was after the heart attacks. But obviously he wanted to keep his health private. I suspect there was a partial leak but it was stomped on, I suspect it is very difficult to keeps these things private.

I tend to associate all reports of musician heart attacks with past cocaine use. Nasty stuff for the heart:

Not to mention all the other areas of bodily function it impacts severely.

Gotchya.

I wonder if he had a transplant that didn't pan out in the end - just like his pal Lou Reed.

Pete Townshend said he'd "known he was sick for several years."
