Lots of work going on at the Riccarton jbhifi. New white paint on both levels. Looks as if opening day is a few weeks away.

No lights on at the Riccarton JB Hi fi today. Guess that means the painting stage is done & the shop fit out is about to start.

Had another look through the 10 cm peephole at the soon to be JB Hifi at the Riccarton mall shop.    Painting is all finished I think and I saw a whole lot of power points on a wall display.    Other than the power points the progress being made could be described as glacial in its speed.

Re-fitting work now going on in the old Featherston St. (Wellington) premises.

Did Eric Clapton really think she looked wonderful...or was it after the 15th outfit she tried on and he just wanted to get to the party and get a drink?

Looks like Sterling Sports is taking over the Ex-DSE store in Whangarei's Okara Park. Signage went up a few days ago.

Glenfield mall is getting a sweedish furniture importing store, I guess with how empty the rest of the mall is that it means rents are cheap enough that is a viable thing.

Interesting developments other than Christchurch!     I took another cruise around the four ex DSE sites in Christchurch.     Riccarton same as yesterday except for a new metal stand on the lower level.    The Palms, nothing happening there, the same 'To Lease' signs.    Northwood, same as a month ago with 'To Lease' sign in window.    A little bit of painting has been done on one interior wall.     Hornby.    'To Lease' sign on window.    Shop completely bare, looks the same as a month ago except that the shattered glass door has been fixed.    I will try to upload a few photos.

I find it interesting that only one of the ex DSE sites have new tenants after two months.     The Hornby shop is in a prime spot near the front entrance to the Mall.   The Northwood mall shop is just a few steps away from Warehouse Stationery & a busy supermarket.    The Palms mall  shop is in the worst location but still only 50 metres from the main entrance.

Now has a billboard stuck to it. Going to be a womens' clothes store......because the Wellington CBD doesn't have enough of those already I guess.

Yeahh... but... no access from inside the mall, it's at the wrong side of the doors for foot traffic from the majority of the surface car park, people coming from the upper car park don't see it at all, and with the expansion inside the mall that's only going to be more of a problem.

Yes, good point about Hornby shop.    Maybe 'sub-prime' location would be a better description!

Apologies, I got this wrong.  It will be a shoe-shop.... because we don't have many of those either.

Parking at or near the Hornby shop would have to be the worst in what is already an atrocious carpark at the best of times. The Chalmers St entrance is still the main entry point for the mall carpark so any shop there would get great visibility as cars are often qued there getting in or out of the carpark.

When it was Civic, we would get constant complaints about how hard it was to get in / out, and that is before the additional traffic and people due to the expansion / earthquakes. It won't suit many retailers as most want internal access to the main part of a mall to benefit from the foot traffic. Its not big enough for a big box retailer, nor for the likes of JB Hifi. All the major banks already have representation there with maybe only SBS or Heartland bank being the next level down that aren't there.

Could maybe suit a restaurant / bar, but I doubt the mall would want an on premises license as part of the mall (and does Hornby really need any more liquor outlets anyway)

Maybe Wellington is heading for a Shoe Event Horizon
