It depends on how you interpret it. I saw it the exact opposite way. Morgan wouldn't shut up enough to let Henry complete one question.

At least Paul Henry stopped the rubbish that Gareth Morgan was spewing. Morgan crazy ideas would wreck our economy and he is supposed to be an economist, I wonder where he purchased his diploma from.

So you think it's the place of an interviewer to stop someone being interviewed from spouting what in your opinion is "rubbish" so that nobody else gets to hear what he's got to say, then you launch into an ad-hominem attack against him yourself?

I suggest you calm down, think about that with reference to how you've reacted at times to others when they've tried to shut people down on these forums.

I don't agree with GM's "equity tax" BTW, but I do respect his expertise, and would have liked to hear him discuss it in more detail rather than just seeing him being shouted down.

If you'd have opened your mind a bit, then I presume that the argument would have been that with an equity tax replacing (all or part of) income taxes, then you'd be able to spend time getting ahead by working to increase income rather than equity. I presume that would also create jobs/wealth, rather than encourage dead non-productive investment which doesn't.

Calling him a loony for expressing new ideas confirms how closed-minded people can be.

It reflects poorly on you too.

I don't think it will be for my generation (mid thirties). I honestly cannot see universal super existing by the time I get there. I've read Morgan's Big Kahuna (I forget who co-wrote it). His equity tax makes sense from a fairness point of view, after all, we have GST which is somewhat of an unfair tax, and most other income is taxed. However it would be terribly unpopular given the that possibly the bulk of voters are home owners. However there is potential for drastic change in perhaps another generation when the bulk of the voter base is renting.

On a sidenote, I don't watch Paul Henry because of these type of interviews, my partner watches it every morning, but I tire of adversarial style and just generally talking over his guests.

Fair enough, but in this case, GM was reverse adversarial. Simple questions, but not suitable for him. Weak. His money doesnt insure against weak.

To some degree we are effectively already renting our homes if we own them, as we have to pay rates, (plus body corporate fees, insurance etc) There are people who have to pay over 10k a year on rates, because they happen to live in a high value area and have a high value home, relative to other homes in the area. But applying it to a family home is stupid, because it is impossible for a family home to generate income, unless you are renting out rooms etc.

Agree. A home is a home. 1 Mill, 800 equity. So the F what? I/we live in it, are we supposed to derive an income from it, and if we don't we get taxed on it??? He needs a hobby, or to be a real economist

What about my lawnmower? Should I buy a $6000 ride on, or another $350 one? Like my own home, its mine, its not a business.
