6 hours in the emergency department of a hospital in Seattle the other night, US$9,000

Ouch! But I assume that's picked up by insurance not you personally?

Personally, I find it weird the amount of money couples appear to be willing to spend on weddings - perhaps they've "bought" a life-time of nice memories of that single day, or "bought" the happiness of their partner, but I just think about what else that money could have done, especially for those who don't yet own a house etc. I look back at other moments in my life, most notably the birth of my boys, as being far more significant and amazing - and then I think what they're going to cost me for the rest of my life! On that basis, those two brats are probably the most expensive things I've "invested" in...

Congrats on your new addition. I hope she brings you as much joy as my kids give me!

Thanks, she is the joy in my life, i just can't believe I waited until nearly 40!

I met my wife when I was 17. I knew instantly, as corny as it sounds. We were discussing kids names weeks later, but for various reasons, we ended up waiting till our early 30's to have kids.  It's been fantastic. We are better more patient and financially secure people than we were in our 20's and don't regret the delays and waiting.

If you have a house, then most things in a house that need replacing end up being very spendy, eg a new fire maybe the best part of $7-10k, a new Oven 3k, a new bathroom 20k etc.

Hmm.

New woodburner and surround  -$3000. (Husband DIYed it at the time.

New oven $799.

New fridge $584.

Bathroom, OK, not renovated totally but loo $139. cabinets either side of sink - free.  Sink  -free.

(Husband was a plumber, son works at bathroom place)

All depends how much you DIY, what you buy and how much effort you put into searching out who has the cheapest price for the thing you want to buy.

Save time next go round.

Buy a house, find a woman who doesn't like you and give her the house...! 😆
