For a long time, Christianity was pretty much synonymous with Catholicism. Especially after the Catholics set out to destroy the people it labelled as heretics.

Other Christian sects also have priests.

And witch-hunting was a thoroughly Christian endeavour, with both Catholics and Protestants: There is also some evidence, particularly from the Holy Roman Empire, in which adjacent Roman Catholic and Protestant territories were exchanging information on alleged local witches, viewing them as a common threat to both.

But, if the KKK (despite their self-definition as Christian, having lots of members who self-define as Christian, and requiring members to swear to uphold Christian morality) isn't Christian, then ISIS isn't Islamic either.

No Catholics are not Christian. Go research it, the results may surprise you.

Some like to be divided by the minutiae while others unite on the common grounds.

The former will say Catholics are not Christians, the latter will say all Catholics are Christians but not all Christians are Catholic.

Then there are the cults ... yes/no questions again.

So there is no arguments here - some will say yes some will say no. Moving along, nothing to see here.

'Christianity' certainly doesn't have an absolute definition that's accepted by all, much like most or all religions, but to say Catholics are not Christians is, in my view, pretty extreme. They share most of the same beliefs around their deity and the constructs of the faith.

Wiggum you say 'go research it'. A quick google reinforces pretty quickly that Catholicism seems to not only be pretty well accepted as a denomination of Christianity, but is by far the biggest one. Wikipedia (I know - now the perfect reference point - but good enough) opens with "Christianity is an Abrahamic monotheistic religion based on the life and teachings of Jesus Christ, who serves as the focal point for the religion." - Catholicism falls very much within that broad definition.

You may have your own opinion of what Christianity is - but good luck getting a consensus on that. The same will be true for followers of Islam.

It simply isn't.

It is not a tiny minority of Muslims that take a literal interpretation of teachings of the Qu'ran - it's a majority of them. There's very little denouncing of Muslim terrorist actions by other Muslims and what there is is IMO just propaganda. That is in sharp contrast to extremist Christians.

Hey guys, one thing to be wary of when citing what Muslims may or may not believe and weather violence is endorsed by the minority/majority etc, is that the Qu'ran is quite contradictory.

This boils down to the fact that Mohamed didn't actually write a lot of it, rather it is a collection of his sermons that other people wrote down. When Mohamed started out, he was more conservative and interested in the greater good, love peace etc, but as he got famous, successful and possibly got dementia, his sermons got more rambling, intolerant and extreme. He was ultimately corrupted by his power and wealth and embittered by people rejected him and his religion (Jews, Christians etc) and said some pretty wild stuff in his old age.

The friendly English speaking Imam's you see on TV quote from the front of the Qu'ran and the Osama's quote from the back of the Qu'ran. The congregations can be anywhere in between and it is close to impossible for infidel like us to figure out where they're at due to the language barriers.

Don't forget, drinking water is correlated with dying too. Everybody that drinks water dies.
