Reports have been coming in of another van driving into a group of pedestrians in London. This one seems different, though. According to the reports, which are preliminary, it appears that a van may have targeted Muslims emerging from a mosque, which possibly makes it a revenge attack. My original thread was (rightly) locked for deviating far from the topic but I think this new tragedy warrants attention.

Haven't spotted anything yet that says 'deliberate'. Maybe it was, maybe it was joyriders with bad timing. Time will, no doubt, tell.

It is funny how the power and speed and ubiquity of the media distorts ones view of the world. Even when objectively one knows that as a species we are generally safer, healthier, wealthier and more connected and more tolerant that we have ever been, events over the last 12-18 months and the news coverage thereof has me despairing at humanity more so than I have ever done in my 40-odd years.

People are sh!t.

aaaand we know it's deliberate how exactly?  You are possibly right but lets wait for the details to come out before rounding up the farmers and pitchforks.

There is some "history" with that mosque. I doubt it was an accident - but would be happy to be wrong.

True - nothing concrete as yet, but reported eye-witness accounts seem to corroborate a deliberate assault.

Perhaps I will put my despair on hold until more details are forthcoming...

If it was deliberate, it isn't overly smart to get into a tit-for-tat battle with an organisation whose members have a penchant for martyrdom. Legal means would be a better way to solve the problem.

My thoughts align with that, No point taking an eye for an eye or a tooth for a tooth. What ever the case is news will give us a different story for a few days then we will know what went down.

Those days are long gone. But the name keeps coming up in the news like 911 over and over.

Hamza for instance was arrested long ago and eventually deported for trial in USA. The mosque has been managed by the British Muslim Association now since 2005.

I didn't say it was deliberate. I qualified my remarks very carefully. However, it looks like it could have been deliberate. If it was, I wonder how that fits with the comments on the previous thread about the Muslim religion being the source of this kind of thing.

In any case, my thoughts are with the victims, who I believe in this instance were Muslim.

What's all this 'us and them' stuff? That is the propaganda of terrorists and sectarians.

if it's a Muslim then it's terrorism , it it is a white christian then it will be "he didnt get enough hugs as a child" and it still well be the Muslims fault . just a cynics view of the world.

RNZ:

The mosque's chairman, Mohammed Kozbar, said it was a terrorist attack, just as Manchester and London Bridge were terrorist attacks.

The Muslim Council of Britain said a van "intentionally" ran over people and its "prayers are with the victims."

"It appears that a white man in a van intentionally ploughed into a group of worshippers who were already tending to someone who had been taken ill," the Muslim Council said in a statement.

So what are you saying? Lets all sing kum-by-ya around the camp fire and not acknowledge that people are different and have different cultures/ideologies/world outlooks/superstitions/values/goals?

People can be different without being unequal. Failing to recognise peoples differences is what causes these problems in the first place.
